Turns out I have landed myself one of these clients. Although they do understand that SEO is a time consuming and some-what long winded process, which is a positive.

 

I have a question.

 

Currently on their site, you cannot see the file names i.e product.html

 

I am re-doing their site with xhtml css and php and doing SEO, how am i going to set up perm 301 redirects if i cannot see the file names?

 

I am going to have to set up a redirect for all of their pages, 40+.

 

ALSO, How will uploading a new htaccess file nuke the whole site?

As for your new client, lets have a look!

If you don't know the original URL you can't set up a redirect! Howvere I think you're referring to folder based url like http://www.mysite.com/products/ ? If so you just redirect /products/ to products.php
