As for renewals.. because I only use proper companies, I've never encountered this type of behaviour. Asking why I only got an invoice that I was being billed for renewal, rather than a reminder that I was up for renewal, I got this reply: "Upon further checking, the domain name mywebsite.com got renewed prior to the cancellation (renewal date 19/06/2011-19/06/2012 ) . This is the reason why we billed you for the domain name. Also, dated Feb 18, 2011, we send you a notification email about the renewal of your domain name with the email subjectline "Reminder: 1&1 Domain Renewal Notification". 1 reminder, four months before it's due. Now that's what I call underhanded. Be thankful there are proper web hosting companies out there. You have been warned...
