As the title states, this is my first attempt at a WordPress driven site. I would like to thank Mike, Spitfire, Renaissance, Porkschops and a few others for guiding me through this, much appreciated guys.

 

http://www.lewesbonfirecelebrations.com/ (not all the pages are linked in as yet, namely the history section and the societies pages have no content -)

 

The site uses both static pages and blog posts with categories/tags and the theme was built completely from scratch. I have installed the all in one seo plugin and have an autogenerating xml sitemap (plus html version). I also have an events calendar installed.

 

Is there anything visibly or technically wrong? Any mistakes I have made?

 

Is my robots.txt sufficient? Wrong? Too much? http://www.lewesbonfirecelebrations.com/robots.txt

 

Should I be worried about duplicate content via tags/cats/posts?

Not bad, but small text is poor readable (probably, due of UglyQuaRegular), especially the light grey one.

Wow, I'm impressed I'm doing my first WordPress theme also for a client. Its fun but a big learning curve.

Yeah maaaaan, told you you'd get there!

 

Looking good and certainly captures the essence of the feel you're going for.

 

Couple of things...

 

On such a text heavy site the use of textual Google ads is confusing for the viewer.

The main nav doesn't stick out much.

Get some sort of hover effect going on the social icons.

Yeah I personally don't think it fits the site, but he insists on it being there. Any suggestions?
