What's the most important aspect olf Web Design and Development - Aesthetics / Visual Design - Usability - Accessibility - Valid Code - Another that you've neglected to mention - It depends on the site audience I'd opt for 'it depends on the site audience', for a photogrpahers site I'd say it's aesthetics, for a university information based site i'd say a combination of usability and accessiblity.

Much of the time content comes from the client, so I was thinkign in terms of what's important for a designer/developer to deliver the goods. End of the day in terms of site hits and sales generated content is probably king.
March 27, 200818 yr ah ok.. pooint taken.. Well, i just think that the most important element is to find a good balance between all option listed above. Sounds like a cliché, i know... But i think it's the truth. But if i have to choose one.. i think it's usability and accessebility.
March 27, 200818 yr I think I would say Aesthetics / Visual Design even though I'm a big fan of Usability, Accessibility and Valid/Semantic Code. The reason is, your site won't be good unless it's pleasing for the eye. You would of course need to get your site "understandable" for your users, (usability, Accessibility) but for me, that's a big part of what defines a nice visual design. This is really tricky. I'm not even sure I picked the right one. My choice is like a combo of three things really.
March 27, 200818 yr No site is good without good content. But the content has to be well presented too. So that makes everything important. Of course the audience/client makes the percents flow a bit, but you get the point.
March 27, 200818 yr A balance is obviously necessary for a successful site, however, I voted for usablility. Simply, it doesn't matter how pretty/ valid/ accessible/ what audience demographic - if it's awful to get around, the content won't be seen, and people will go somewhere else.

It's like asking what's the most important thing about a car, the engine, the body, or the wheels - the fact is, they are all as important as each other, it wouldn't work without any of them.

Second - I thought it was an interesting poll/debate and personally I'd place differing levels off importance depending on the nature of the site though still wherever possible pay attention to all. Rob - you can tick 'em all if you think all counts equally. Meanwhile usability is winning, perhaps rightly so.. Keep voting folks.

Though a bit of everything doesn't negate that one or more factors maybe more important depending on your own outlook and/or the clients brief and/or nature of the site. As mentioned to Rob, tick 'em all if that's your vote.
