April 15, 201115 yr For a Web Developer, you should know about photoshop, dream weaver, CSS, Animation And Graphics other than the languages HTML and PHP. If you are experienced, then they ask you about the sites u have worked and they tell you to develop one site with the criteria they provide.
April 15, 201115 yr What should I expect in the interview for a position as a Web developer? Brace yourself for the distinct possibility that you'll get interviewed by people who don't know what the hell they're on about. Also brace yourself for the fact that the job description in the advert might not actually be what the job is - blag in other words. If that isn't the case, then I would have thought web developer would include databases, server side languages, etc. - not what websitedesigners says above. That would be web designer not developer. Chances are it will either be a php framework or asp.net framework. Possible it could be something else like Ruby etc. Having said that, the last job I had was advertised as web developer and actually it was designer/developer rolled into one (probably because they were too stingey to afford two people)

April 15, 201115 yr What's the job description? If it's a back end developer role for any reputable employer, they will most probably want you to demonstrate your programming skills. It could be in the form of an exam type question where they would pose a scenario and you'd explain how you'd go about solving the problem. They're not necessarily looking for an exact answer but the steps in which you would take in order to breakdown and solve the problem. For example, Dev interviewees at my workplace are asked how they'd go about writing a program to calculate bowling scores. Literally could be anything. Just make sure you are confident and comfortable with explaining your code. Good luck!

April 18, 201115 yr I may be wrong here, but they don't ever get very specific about the job role or required skillset, or is it just too late at night for me to concentrate properly. "DHTML" ??? "HTML" and "CSS". Am I guessing this may be a firm that wants bringing up to date a bit on the technologies? It could be fun then in that case I guess, you might have a say in what they use etc. - my last job was a bit like that. Also it sounds very front-end from the required skillset. What I find strange is they talk about "Web development" and a "Passion for coding and creative applications" yet the skillset goes nowhere near that. It's just front end, not even Photoshop mentioned there. Interesting one, let us know how it goes. Edited April 18, 201115 yr by Gibson
April 18, 201115 yr They want to get graphics designer and developer - both in the same person. Work for two, salary for one.
April 18, 201115 yr Sounds like you'll be working in the digital dept for a marketing company. Make sure you are able to explain, in simple marketing terms, how you can build websites that will complement their marketing efforts i.e. drive social media, engage audiences, extension of brand, measure ROI, CPC, Google Analytics etc. I'd guess that the interview will be undertaken by the creative director who will be interested in knowing that you can bring all his ideas to life. Show your personality, display a can-do attitude, talk-the-marketing-talk and be confident. Good luck!

But I'm kind worried this company is not legit when they posted their job ad at kijiji.com (free classifieds site.) I talked about this with my job developer and she suggested that I shouldn't bother going to this meeting because it was posted on a free classifieds site(kijiji.com). anyways, I want a second opinion on this company www(dot)couch-associates(dot)com/index(dot)php Edited April 25, 201115 yr by Phil527
April 26, 201115 yr To be fair, that's hardly reason alone to disregard the company. The company itself, based purely on a quick google search, seems legit enough. Although the company didnt return many search results which might suggest either a new company, poor SEO or poor markup probably suggests why they need a new web guy! Go to the interview and you'll find out more. What's the worse that can happen? A potential missed opportunity if you don't go however.

I checked the BBB and the local consumer protection offices, no record of this company but at least they are a licensed company since 1998. anyways my question is "How much information should I give them?" cheques?, SIN? , and etc? what information do u give to be on the payroll?
