March 16, 201115 yr Hello all, a made a brief post in the introductions section about 1 week ago and here i am again. The thin is i need a web site and this is the sort i need www-usednabused-co-uk i can not post links due to being a new member so i've replaced the dots with dashs. Does anyone know how easy a site like this would be to make. I have contacted the site owner and he has given me a price to sell for but im not sure what it's worth. I really would be gratefull for help and advice on this. Thanks in advance, Steve
March 17, 201115 yr its a online shop. i dont like the design.honestly the site can not attract its customer. you can try various shoping cart( open source) which is more attractive than it
March 17, 201115 yr I think the website design and UX is quite poor to be honest. The graphics fail especially on the polaroids, since when did polaroids have inner shadow on actual photo edge? I would personally avoid this designer and look around for a freelancer or company who knows the fundamentals of what makes a good website. Cheers. Woz

March 17, 201115 yr Thanks for that, what sort of price am i looking at to get a site built and a domain name plus hosting, thanks again Steve I'd need a little more info before I could give you an accurate quote. How many products will you initially be having on the site? Do you have your own product photos? What other functionality do you need (other than basic add to cart buttons etc)? Do you want a .com or a .co.uk domain name? Other than the store, how many info pages do you need? Will it include a blog? etc etc. Edited March 17, 201115 yr by Bomb

Will it include a blog? etc etc. no need for a blog, maybe an info page on the landing page i would proberly need 10 main catagories (coats / vests / boots etc) and would like the site to go to a page once a catogories is clicked and show available stock in that selection. I'd say that i would have no more than 100 items in stack at the same time, i would have all my own photos of the stock for sale so i would need to be able to upload photos th the site and i would like to try and make a bit from a few advetising programe (you know the ones were you get paid when users click through to there site). I would like customerts to have to register before buying and hopefully get some sort of e newsletter set up for when i get new stock. Id need an add to cart button and a contact me button, i would like to accept paypal and credit cards. THanks STEVE I hope that lot all makes sense
March 17, 201115 yr Author Have sent you a PM. I have pm'd back, how much do you think that usednabused site is worth as the owner has offered me it and named his price
March 17, 201115 yr I have pm'd back, how much do you think that usednabused site is worth as the owner has offered me it and named his price I wouldn't like to put a price on it really as it'd probably vary based on the income it generates, stock etc. That said though there's nothing stopping the site owner selling you that site & building himself another, better looking site himself. Are you looking to buy his site, business or both?

March 17, 201115 yr I dunno much about web design but the coding isn't that neat, for me but I am only learning. If you brought it, there's a high chance of having to redo some things. Why not start from scratch? If that design is the sort you like, you could copy the code and have a play about with it, changing pics etc? I'm sure it would be cheaper to design a site, than pay for one like that. Say you go for a designer, you may pay £250 - £500 but buying from this guy, he may want £600 - £1000 (these are noot exact, i'm going by theory). Just a thought x

March 17, 201115 yr just his site as it's exactly what i need, hes offered me it for what i think is a cheap price but i would not know how or what to expect am i just buying some sort of coding? thanks again To be completely honest I think the most valuble part of the website is probably the domain name as it's not an overly great design & its built on a free cart script. Do you know your ftp login details? Also, I would download something like Filezilla. You can upload the template to filezilla (which logins into your domain). I do apologise, if there is an easier way to do this, I'm still new to the whole design thing.

March 18, 201115 yr Hey dont apologise im very very new to this and i really appriciate your help. I look forward to learning Thanks Steve There are lots of free cart scripts, here are just a few Prestashop zencart magento opencart Personally I prefer prestashop. it depends which one suits you best You will need php and mysql available on your host though, if you are paying £2.50 a month I doubt you will have that but you should be able to upgrade for a few pounds Pat Edited March 18, 201115 yr by pat24
March 18, 201115 yr Just looked at the site... £12 for used smelly socks! I'll sell mine for £9 - in fact you can have them free if your that desperate haha. Joking over... I have to agree that the site is not well designed for the user. The text is very hard to read in my opinion especially the light blue links.* * I am colour blind to a degree however.

Im tending to agree noe, it is a pretty poor site and to think i very very very nearly gave him hundreds of pounds for it, im glad i took time out to research this before buying. Do you reckon i'll be capable of creating something like this with a bit of research and learning or it this a job for the pros? thanks Steve

Everything is possible, the only thing that can hold you back is your imagination.
March 18, 201115 yr Author Absolutely. Everything is possible, the only thing that can hold you back is your imagination. So were is the best place to start, is it simply a case of playing with the source code on usednabused or starting from scratch, whats these free shoping carts all about? thanks Steve
March 18, 201115 yr So were is the best place to start, is it simply a case of playing with the source code on usednabused or starting from scratch, whats these free shoping carts all about? thanks Steve I wouldn't use the code from that site I would start fresh, first check you have php, mysql available on your host and if possible cpanel if you have these then its very probable you will have scriptaculous as well, this will allow you to set up one of the mentioned free scripts. Pat

They also use third party SSL hosting to process the orders. I think you'd be best to start from scratch using one of the mentioned ecoms. **EDIT** pat24 beat me to it lol. March 19, 201115 yr Just to pass on something new i've come across (well for me lol). If your host/provider has PHP ability, it means that when you add a link to your nav bar, you only have to make 1 edit, as without PHP, you'd have to edit every single page. For example, make a file called 'menu.html' and add in the nav bar links; <li > </li> now, in the html file, ike your index, change it from index.html to index.php. Then between the codes in the index.php add <?php include 'menu.html': ?> between the <ul> section, like below' <ul class="panels"> <?php include 'menu.html'; ?> </ul> save it as index.php and upload to your domain via filezilla or alike. That was the easiest way it was explained to me, I hope it makes sense?
