I have recently got into doing PS tutorials.

 

I love doing them, its something different and i have always wanted to do video editing and what not but never had any reason too if that makes sense.

 

I am considering doing a blog...

 

Now for those bloggers out there i need a question answering...

 

Is blogs a case of if you build it they will come kind of thing or do 99% of blogs have none reading them.

 

I plan to do every tutorial in video and written form so I am talking kind of high effort here...

 

but on the other hand i have no interest in flooding it with faggy adverts and selling out. Its pure hobby.

I'm going to start a blog soon as well, I registered the domain already but I need to start writing articles and the blog software.

 

I think if the articles are well written and search engine friendly then a lot of your traffic will come through people searching for topics. There was that famous article a while back about how some guy posted a blog about SEO being a scam and it got to the first page on google for SEO! I guess submitting articles to dzone/tutorial sites, etc will drive more traffic. I'd also like to monetize mine but rather than adverts I'm just going to write a 'hire me' page and use it as a channel for getting freelance work, it cant do any worse than my 'company' site for getting me work.

I did a few test blog posts a while back, just about random subject and they all got commented on i was a little socket to be honest, one of them was just a rant about Inception.

Sell them to the Tuts+ network. You'll get cash and a dofollow link from the bio box.

Not sure if this is much help but,

 

I prefer video tutorials over text, because I can watch what going on instead of it being described.

I've come across afew text tutorials that are good, for example this one. It's detailed and has screenshots.

 

The only annoyance I find with video tutorials, is that the person making them isn't always clear and understandable.

Also with some text tutorials, you don't have a clue what the person is talking about.

some people like text, some people like videos...

 

part of why i am doing both. I tend to learn more with videos and i think i get more personality across in them.

It can only help, I've recently stated a blog, and to help I posted a tutorial on hv-designs in octobee and it's still sending in 40% of my traffic.

+1 for videos, 1st place I search for tutorials is youtube, I like the way you can pause the video to complete previous instructions then resume to get the next info. If I find the video useful I Often look to see what other videos they have on the subject program.

you can always add text to video description, if it allows ? or a link at beginning of video to a text blog
