September 20, 201015 yr Hi All For the past few years I have mainly concerned myself with pretty simple and straight forward websites. Those built with information in mind. I've built an e-commerce site using one of those off the shelf packages but have never involved myself with the complexities of a DB ran site. I have recently picked up a client who would like an online booking system for his hair salon. He would like his clients to be able to make an appointment online. So my question is how difficult is this to do for someone with no skills in this area ? are there software packages that I might be able to utilise to give me a solution ? Another thing, having not completed a project like this, what sort of timescales and what ought I be charging for this kind of work ? What are your thoughts ? Thanks Steve

September 20, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the weblink ! Ive contacted them and unfortunately they dont do website booking system add-ons. As a client you have to have their whole system which does consist of a website with online booking facility. Any other ideas? thanks Steve
September 21, 201015 yr i recently built a booking system with, voucher system and payment though paypal, i am now making a sagepay gatway for it. In the backend my client can book days off, set times and dates she is working, view, edit or delete all bookings, set how much things are, Set how many people per hour she wants and a few more features. All of this is ajax generated. It took me 4-5 days at about 14 hours a day to get it working with no bugs. If you want a link to view the frontend pm me But this is a complex booking system, by the sounds of it you dont need anything like that so maybe 4 days at 5-6 hours a day so you can test and iron all bugs out. Hope this helps.
September 21, 201015 yr "Online Booking" means complexity unless you don't have full requirements about what your client want. If they want simple client admin interaction for example user register in the site -> see what dates are available for appointment -> make appointment -> then check out. Admin will see the schedule. that's it. then it will take 2 to 4 days if the design is ready. As you mention that you don't have much experience in this kind of project then i would say contact any web developer who can give you clear idea about application and help you to develop you application. If you have any query about project then contact me by visiting my signature. You can also find my contact info in my profile.
September 23, 201015 yr I built an appointment system for a hair salon a few months ago ... it turned out to be one of the most complicated projects I've had to tackle so far. Admittedly a lot of the complexity came from extra features that had to be added... three different levels of access, multiple staff accounts and varying appointment lengths to mention just a few. There were a lot of other, more random features as well, and the whole thing took about two months. As far as I know there is no commercial software available that would do this which is why we had to make a custom built solution. It was an interesting concept though and seems that it would be useful across quite a few industries, so I added it as a package to my website. If you'd like more info please feel free to PM me - something like this might be useful for your own project. All the best
