Are will to buy a dedicated server and manage it yourself? First of all you will have to decide what application you will require accordingly dedicated are you willing to go for windows server or Linux.

 

Then you can also decide about control panel, Cpanel is good for linux, Plesk is better for Windows.

try reading this for a start and then ask yourself do you have (any) skills to run a web hosting service and be able to answer any technical questions that your customers will be asking you. I'm guessing not.

If you have to ask these types of questions, you'd best not try this. Web hosting is an extremely complex industry, and the amount of 13 year olds starting fly-by-night companies that fail after a month gives the industry a bad name.

 

If you absolutely must continue with this plan, for the love of God, do not start hosting clients who rely on you for their website to remain operational until you have considered these things:

 

• Do you have a business plan?
  
• Do you know how to secure a server to prevent rootkits, injection attacks, etc?
  
• Are you of a legal age to file Articles of Incorporation? (unless you want to be personally liable for any lawsuits or damages that may float your way)
  
• Are you prepared to operate without profit for at least 6 months?
  
• Do you realize you will be competing against thousands of others who are selling the exact same thing as you, but have been doing it longer?
  
• What is your niche going to be? What differentiates you from the other web hosts?
  

 

I'll stop there. Now that I've got that out of my system, I recommend this: start with reseller hosting - don't go and rent a server (if that's what you were considering). When you have questions, your web host can help you out. Slowly you'll gain experience and can move to bigger and better things (VPS, dedicated server).

I totally agree with TheHostGenie.

Hosting is not a thing that you learn over a tutorial. It requires linux admin knowledge, marketing, unlimited hours of hard work and anxiety control management when thing's will go wrong .

So follow the advice and go slow.First a reseller package then vps and then a dedicated.If you are good on sales and customer support you can always get a managed dedi/vps server or a company that will manage the dedi/vps for you.

 

Hosting shouldn't be an one man show...
