I am new to the forum and it seemed the best place to get a reliable answer for my query.

 

I have just finished college and want to start my career as a freelance graphic/web designer. I have built websites on the side for families and relatives and I am ready to hit the big wide world.

 

I have used web hosting services such as just host and heart internet, though this has only been for individual sites. These have never let me down though I know its pretty unprofessional and inefficient doing it this way.

 

I have looked at various reseller accounts such as the heart internet, fast hosts and web hosts uk. These deals would be great if i had an income which could pay for that though as little as £30 a month may seem its £30 pound i cant afford to waste right now.

 

I am currently working on a website for a plant nursery I have almost finished the website and its time to transfer it to a host from my own hosting.

 

As i have recently finished college plus im working on the plant nursery website i haven't had the time to create my own companies website.

 

I want my company to be able to offer web hosting in the future (or right now) and i want a package where i can host my own companies website along with other future clients.

 

Does anyone know a good reliable starter package which i could upgrade as my company gets bigger?

 

I would also love to hear any tips of any of you experienced web designers who have ventured through this stage.

Everyone on this forum may not agree but I have had a reseller account with http://www.fasthostingdirect.co.uk/ssl/whois/reseller.php

 

For a year now and have had no problems whatsoever with them, they are quick to respond to any problems or queries, I think they are hosted through heart but ive never had the need to check and for £100 for 2years with a max of 30 domains available I cant fault them. I am sure there are better options out there but as I said they have never let me down.

If you can't afford to run a reseller account straight away I'd suggest getting your clients to sort their own hosting out initially.

 

Once you have a steady income and can afford to run a reseller account then is the time to start offering it to your clients. You will technically lose money at first but once you get a few customers on board that should see you breaking even on your hosting costs, after that income after expenses should all be profit.

Bear in mind that your clients may not want to switch their hosting over to you!

What server needs does the site have, eg how much disk space?

What's your budget?

I was using just host and for £40 a year i had unlimited everything which we all know isn't remotely true.

 

Anything simular to the heart internet home pro.

 

20,000mb disk space

60,000mb bandwidth

Email Accounts

Free .co.uk domain

 

A reliable host.

 

Ideal budget would be around £50 nothing over £100.

For such small sites you can get cheap shared hosting accounts for each site separately.

 

You can charge your customers for this hosting packages if you want.
