Does this look ok or not?

Featured Replies

What do you think of this page? Does the design look good, menu bar, banner etc.

I'm looking for feedback on good and bad and i'm prepared for it to be mostly, if not all, bad..

Thanks heres the link and its just this page i'm interested in at the moment the other links do work but have not been worked on so ignore everything except finding us page,

Thank you,

Jason

The only thing that looks decent is the banner up top.

Your navigation text is much too small, almost unreadable especially on hover. Your email is blue on black which is very unreadable. The green boxes seem very amateurish and ugly.

It looks like you have a good idea about how to layout the design. It's just the ultra dark black and the bright rich green can be unpleasant and almost painful to look at. It's kind of like being in a pitch black room and someone shines a flashlight straight into your eyes. After you take care of that, try to make the content and navigation a little more interesting. Otherwise, not a bad preliminary effort.

The colour scheme does not suit the subject matter. Choose something like #f7f7f7 for the background colour and change the green.

Do a google search on mortgage consultants to get some inspiration and see what styles they are using successfully.

I would take that business more seriously than the one in your link because of the design of the website.

Hello again. Well I pretty much started again! At very early stages but thought I'd ask you kind folk for some opinion.

Thoughts so far?

Does it look user friendly to you guys?

Bear in mind the only links that work are HOME & MORTGAGE SECTION.

I have my shield at the ready.

Like it so far, nice and clean.

2 things:

The nav dropping down past the picture/banner, something doesnt feel right.

In the home menu dont use "stuff" try "information" or "info" at a push; stuff isnt the right word when dealing with mortgages.

Keep it up ill be looking for updates

Cheers Torrix,

Not sure I can do much about the nav bar dropping below the image box except make the images bigger but then if I add further menu items in the future then i'll end up at the bottom of the page ha! Any ideas?

With regard 'stuff' it was just a temp measure to get a feel for how it will look and feel. Reckon i'll be changing a few of the menu items and you're bang on 'stuff' & 'mortgages' don't really enjoy each others company!

Thanks for looking & commenting really appreciated,

i think that's much better keep building on that and it should be good!

Thanks for the feedback. Feel like I've been staring at my laptop for too long and my legs are beginning to burn from the overheating...time to turn off.

Night all

I would also add a bit of spacing before the text on the drop down nav as they are dead set against the side of the box and looks a little squashed to me.

Other than that i quite like it! :)

Thanks for pointing that out Richyyy I agree does look a little squashed. I been playing around with it and cant find a way to add any left spacing. I tried padding-left: float:left but nothing seemed to work any chance you could put me out of my misery?

Hello again

I think I am almost there with my homepage pending a bit of positioning & formatting of the text in the main part. My current dilemma is with the 5 colored boxes at the bottom. The purpose of these are feature links for certain parts of the site for example 'Check out our step by step tutorials', 'Refer a friend and we'll send you £50' etc etc but I don't know how to design them. I actually quite like the simplicity of the boxes as they are with perhaps some kind of like white billboard text but do you think this would look cheap and should i make them more flashy than that?

What are your thoughts on the design layout overall - does it look OK?

Thanks for any feedback good & bad,

Jason - Here's the link.

By the way none of the links go anywhere so don't expect to navigate anywhere :)

Also the the actual content of the text and menu titles are just to give me an idea of how it looks it is likely to be given much more thought than whats there right now.

the boxes at the bottom would be much better if they matched the menu above in terms of

color

width

positioning

and approx content

IN that way, you are associating color and position with content.. that will be a powerful design

Yes was toying with that last night actually - my girlfriend suggested it to me. I mocked it up based on current dimensions and it did look OK but didn't try it exactly in line with they way you suggested so perhaps i'll see how that looks too.

Thanks Richard appreciate it!

From a usability perspective, I'd add a delay on the navigation dropdown animation when users scroll on and off.

  • Author

Do you mean they load slightly slower like on the last dropdown menu?

My suggestion was just to edit the delay() settings in the JS file and perhaps increase the delay when users rollover and rolloff your navigation boxes. It's just a small thing, but it might help the user experience as they browse. Not a biggie by any means!

Cheers will have a play with those settings. What do you think of the design as a whole though is it missing anything major do you think?
