May 30, 201016 yr Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone would be able to help me. I am starting to design a website for a friend of the family. Good start to build my portfolio! They have asked for a image carousel on the home page which when clicked would just link to the gallery page. I'm very new to all this and wondered if I need to jump into flash to try and make something (gulp) or if anyone had any other suggestions - they would be very welcome! Cheers James

Cheers James Flash is an obvious way forward forward, but it is a very steep learning curve. The 'gulp'says to me that you would prefer a shortcut(?) Do you mean something similar to this http://www.aleosoft.com/flash3dslideshow/index.html . A great bit of kit - followed by a kick-in-the-teeth price. There are some free bits of code / sw that will do the same thing. Time to get googleing!!
May 31, 201016 yr You don't need to do 3d, and this can be done with javascript very easily (and free). My personal favorite is easySlider (http://cssglobe.com/post/5780/easy-slider-17-numeric-navigation-jquery-slider) also check out http://blarnee.com/wp/jquery-image-carousels-for-slidehow/
June 2, 201016 yr Author Thanks - digiLARB & cibgraphics. I'll take a look at those links and let you know when I have something up and running Cheers James
June 3, 201016 yr I built my own with javascript, easy with the right book. Would you care to share your work (and the book)?
June 3, 201016 yr The book is JavavScript for the world wide web by Tom Negrino and Dori Smith. It was a good while ago if i find the code i'll post it. I think the book has a web site where you can download the code and give it a bit of tweeking.
June 7, 201016 yr Magic Slideshow is a JavaScript carousel that can be set to link to a URL on click. It also has slide, fade, pause, arrows, text, headings, effects, thumbnails and a bunch of other useful features. http://www.magictoolbox.com/magicslideshow/
