I am considering doing a blog for my online portfolio but am not sure about it overall.

 

The may reason for my concern is that although I know a blog will add value to my portfolio, the daily/weekly articles or releases needed I wouldn't know what to include within it.

 

I would want useful, relevant web content, articles and short tutorials or tips (maybe). But where would I go about getting these.

 

Writing these sort of things would take me forever, and my use of English isn't excatly up to a copy writers standard.

 

Also I have no CMS exposure, so would have to look into that as well.

 

Any help/suggestions would be welcomed.

Most people suggest using Wordpress

http://wordpress.org/ gives you the program to adapt and edit as you want to match your other pages.

Building your site from a CMS or Blogging application would give you valuable much required experience. Which platform you go with is really a matter of trying a few different ones out and seeing which one works best for you. As for publishing blogs/articles I'd advise not using anyone elses work. If you publish something, especially on your own site, your clients will probably think that you understand what your articles are about and that's something they make contact you about regarding possible work - if you don't understand you won't be able to do the job!

 

So write your own articles, don't worry about your English not being up to scratch at the start, practice will make you better, and writing does make you think hard about whatever subject you're writing about, another learning opportunity.

Thank you for the replies, I will be looking at the platforms available for this and will go from there.

 

In regards to writing articles and tips I think I will try and get a few done of the next week or so and see how I get on with them as that will give me an indictation as to whether or not i'll be able to do it on a regular basis.

I would suggest you to try Wordpress at first and see if you can work with it.

Or else try Joomla and Drupal. All 3 are free and have big communities supporting them.

I think if I go ahead with the blog idea then I will more and likely use wordpress and see how I get along with it, having visited the site it looks pretty simple to set up and use which is brilliant.
