I am currently looking to perhaps pay for hosting, and came across a friend who uses lunarpages as his hosting service. I have gotten mixed reviews, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

 

Good, bad,... ugly?

i had a look at lunarpages also but decided to opt for 3ix cos a few friends had told me about lunarpages being a small bit slower at peak times and some down time...

 

I have nothing bad to say about 3ix tho, and have been with them afor around 2 months.

Lunapages is another one of those hosts that offer the earth dirt cheap, and they oversell like mad. They also base their model around affiliate advertising so you have to treat "recommendations" with a pinch of salt. If you're just running a personal site they should be fine enough but if you plan to run a UK based business site you should be aware that their servers are in the USA and search engines will assume your site is US based as well.

I've been with LunarPages for over 5 years now and have never had anything but great service. In fact, I refer all my freelance clients to them for hosting. They offer a great control panel, stats, Fantastico options, lots of web space and unlimited parked domains. As far as down time, my website has never been down except for 1 hour when they moved me to a newer faster server 2 years ago. They do offer a great affiliate program and wonderful free support when needed.

Ive used dreamhost, which has a similar attitude and had hardly any problems.

 

i'd recommend them however the plan cost has increased, but still cheap!

1christopher - Never used Dreamhost, they seriously oversell! I do however like their blog.
