Does Silverlight have much exposure yet?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Compared to the more established Flash, how many users actually have Silverlight on their computers? Is there any point in going down the Silverlight route (yet) for a website?

Cheers!

Martin

I don't have silverlight installed on my machine, but if more sites start to use it, then I will download it.

At the moment, Silverlight feels really heavy as a DL. They need to reduce the filesize of the standalone player for people in my opinion.

I haven't tried to build anything with it yet - but I may experiment over the coming months

Thanks - yeah that's pretty much what I thought. It doesn't seem to be as ubiquitous as MS claim...

Undoutably people are using Silverlight but the amount of sites that use it is probably very small compared to the total number of sites on the web. Even if 1,000,000 sites use it that's still a very small number in the big scheme of things :)

I think Silverlight was launched in 2007, and despite using the web every day I've never come across a site using it.
