Clients business available in China

Featured Replies

I have a client that sells antique clocks, his website is doing well in the search engines in the UK, and he has worked it out that most of his visitors are coming from China.

So this afternoon he asked me if it was a good idea, to have the site translated, have it hosted in China and also buy a chinese domain name.

If he wanted to do this, as in be a british business, but have a site appear in the chinese search engines, do you think what he asked for baove is enough to get it going there.

Or does anybody have any better ideas, or know of whats needed to get his site to appear over there.

Cheers

Does he actually get people from China buy his wares via the website, or does he just have a load of spammers/hackers visiting his site from there?

No he gets quite a few buyers, and most of the hits he's getting this year have come from china.

Its his best market at the moment, and was wondering how best to take advantage of it.

So he asked me to look into the best way to do this, and so my thoughts where to duplicate the site have it translated into chinese, and then i thought the best thing to do would be to buy a chinese domain name and have it hosted in china.

What I was wondering, is if others thought this was th ebest approach, and if anybody had done anything like this.

Cheers

So how can he/you tell whether these are genuine unique visitors from China and not just spammers etc. - because if you can't, then it would be a bit foolish outlaying money to the website translated and additional domains/hosting bought.

Just my two pence.

But anyways, if he did want to go down that route, all you'd need to do is just get a professional translator to translate the existing site, and you can buy a .cn domain from pretty much any domain registrar these days.

Hi Sam, would you then host it in your country, or would you find a host in china or wouldnt it make a difference you think.

It would probably make more sense to have the Chinese site hosted on a Chinese server - for the Chinese it will be quicker as it will be hosted in the same country, and better in terms of SEO - but ultimately it doesn't need to be hosted in China.

The site can be hosted anywhere, it really makes no difference - however, he should puchase a Chinese domain eg: domain.cn if he wants to increase traffic from that region.

This could be redirected to his current domain or reservered for the translated site.

Best of luck.

Hello there,

I am actually located in China at the moment and I was told the best ways to get his website known is by submitting his website to the Chinese search engine called www.baidu.com or by using www.taobao.com.

Baidu is basically the Chinese google and Taobao is like the Chinese Ebay.

I am certain he will make a lot more sales with that. If he REALLY is interested in getting in to the Chinese market and having things translated I could probably offer some services to help.

Regards,

Robert K.
