October 17, 200917 yr Hello everybody I'm a beginner in the realm of web design (I can write basic HTML and upload a website and that's pretty much it). I am currently undertaking a number of projects and have come to learn that to get quality websites, hiring the services of a pro is vital but can be costly. I would prefer, eventually, to be able to do much of the web development and design myself and I was wondering what designers would suggest is the best way to learn. Should I go to college or Uni or is it enough to delve into a few quality books or online articles. What about online tutorials (Adobe seem to do some good ones). I know some people say you just need to design and build a portfolio but there is so much to learn and the pace of change is so fast that I think something more structured would be better for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated All the best Neil
October 17, 200917 yr Hey Neil, Get stuck in and go for it, grab a few books (Missing manual CSS + teach yourself PHP got me started) and get your hands dirty is the best way. Every time you realise there was a much easier and more efficient way of doing what your doing means your on the right track Stevo
October 17, 200917 yr Hi Neil, Welcome to the Forum. I would go to Uni. You might not learn any good web design but when you get fed up of web design or find you are not good at it, at least you will be able to get normal job. And anyway, eductation is what is left after you forget what you were taught. This what helps you become a good web designer.
