October 13, 200917 yr Hi All I'm hand coding a site and want to know how to add a cms to it so that others can edit it. Is there a simple answer?!! Thanks Kerstey
October 13, 200917 yr If the whole site is to run on a CMS then ideally you should start with the CMS. Choosing which CMS to use will need some homework by you as not all CMS's are equal. Here's quick checklist of things to look at... 1. Will your client understand how to use it 2. Will it handle all the content types you want to manage 3. Is the templating system flexible enough for the needs of the content 4. Is it secure? (hint - check http://secunia.com/advisories/product/ for issues) 5. If you have problems what's the support like?
October 13, 200917 yr Ive just built my first website and used cushycms as a very simple cms and I think it works great, although other people on this forum think different Its really easy to integrate you just add "cushycms" class tags around what you want to be editable and thats about it! Its very limited but for what I wanted it is perfect.

Very limited as well but can easily incorperate into an existing website coded by hand.
October 17, 200917 yr you can add something like visual edit from activecampaign.com which will let you set up logins for users to edit pages (any page - doesnt have to be designed in visual edit!). You can also control what pages and which parts of the page they can edit. We've had great success in using this for clients (hosting clients) instead of recommending joomla etc.
October 20, 200917 yr Hi All I'm hand coding a site and want to know how to add a cms to it so that others can edit it. Is there a simple answer?!! Thanks Kerstey Hi Kerstey Like you, I've been searching for a simple answer as I tend to hand-code my sites. I've looked into loads of CMS options recommended but most of them would appear to require you to create the site through the CMS program rather than add it at the end. The only 2 x options that I've really come across have been either cushycms or surrealcms, although I understand that Adobe's "Incontext Editing" does something similar (but haven't tried it). I'm sure there must be others around, similar to cushy & surreal but I'm yet to come across them!
October 20, 200917 yr If all you want a "page manager" type CMS have you seen http://grabaperch.com/ - apart from managing pages it's actually very flexible should need need to start managing content "CMS" style in future.
