How can they guarantee 1st page Google results?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help with how to get my website further up the search engine results page.

I've had a look at numerous pages online and discovered there's nothing I can do to guarantee it - other than using appropriate keywords etc & submitting my site to search engines etc.

However, there are places that design your site for you & will guarantee they can get you on the first page of search engine results.

Can anyone shed any light on this, everything I've read says that's not possible??

Many thanks

Hi,

I don't think anyone can guarntee first page results... You might want to find a company that you pay on the results or something.

Hi nicb137

Google's ranking criteria are always changing - to prove this they recently posted an article on their official blog stating that the keyword meta tag is not as important as people thought, something that has always been believed to be a key factor in determining search engine ranking position. For some useful information I'd take a look at Matt Cutts' blog (mattcutts.com/blog I believe).

Other things to take into consideration are:

1. Your website copy - is it relevant, keyword rich and unique?

2. Inbound links - do you have relevant anchor inbound text links from external websites?

3. Do a market analysis, check who ranks 1st for your selected keywords and see what they're doing.

In my opinion no-one can guarantee results.

Think about guaranteed first page listings this way. What do you do, and how many other people do it and market at the same audience? If 20, 30, 50 of you are guaranteed a first page spot by a handful of the expert companies, how does that work when the listing only has room for 10?

I'm not knocking getting an SEO expert to help you get the most out of what you have at all, but do think sensibly about what they're offering to do and for how much money. I've had two clients this week tell me 'Google' have phoned them and for around £100 a month will have them on the front page. What they actually mean (from what I can gather) is that some agency who like Google AdWords have phoned them and offered to manage an AdWords campaign for them.

However you are right thinking you can do a lot yourself - get good text throughout the site, get all the right tags in place and use them wisely, keep your code clean, maintain and submit a sitemap/feed, get some quality inbound links, consider content like blogs... you've done the reading, you know the sort of thing I mean.

Also check out the WDF SEO forum for some good info on how it works and my sig link (shameless plug) which covers the SEO basics.

Do you have a link to the site in question? so we can see the code and let you know if there is anything you can do onpage to help.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful replies.

I'm going to go and look at them all more in depth now & go look at the links.

Thanks again

Nicola

With that said, how can one company offer that same guarantee to 20-30 of the same type of business? haha it would essentially be fighting it's own guarantee by having that guarantee. it's a paradox!

Indeed. While what I was actually thinking by writing 'If 20, 30, 50 of you are guaranteed a first page spot by a handful of the expert companies' was that several companies will each be offering the same thing to a few people, when they're all screaming that they can do it with their numerous spam emails, cold calling and fighting themselves for that coveted first page spot, they have to be giving a good number of folk the same fabulous deal.
