September 19, 200916 yr I've decided to bite the bullet and admit that my wireless is not actually reaching my laptop so want a way of extending it easily. I've read a lot of places about homeplugs - the ones that go over the mains, but have no idea which to get. At the moment I have two main choices - Devolo or Netgear. I am looking for something at the top end (about 200mb/s) but didn't know which to get. Any help much appreciated. Regards Nuksies
September 20, 200916 yr First up, why do you need 200Mb/s over the already substantial 85Mb/s? Don't fall under the illusion of the marketing speak that faster = better as it really depends what you need the network for. 85Mb/s a more than enough for a normal internet connection with a household of computers. As for which brand, I've had personal experience with Devolo as I set up a friend's house with the system last year. They needed to get an internet connection to an office at the end of their garden and wifi, even with signal boosters and bigger aerials, just wasn't stable. The solution was this "powerline" technology provided by Devolo and I have to say that it's really impressive stuff… I'll certainly be using it in my own home if wifi isn't enough.

September 20, 200916 yr Author Haha thanks for your replies - I need the 200mb because we're probably gonna get the Virgin 100mbs broadband when that comes out and it isnt that much more expensive - thanks for the advice though
September 22, 200916 yr How much are the power kits? Im saying this because the Wifi at my house is diabolical, im upstairs and the router is downstairs directly below me and I'm getting low signal and its always cutting out!
