Is Flash the best option to design a web site

I am in the process of designing a website for which I need to use Flash. Do you think it would be a good idea to design it completely in Flash?

personally i would say no. as i believe html websites are better found in google searches. you could probably find loads of reasons why not to use flash entirely, but then again it does have it's pros. i am still a noob though, so a more qualified opinion is needed by someone...

those are my 2 cents though.

Google is becoming increasingly able at parsing flash content, however it's still in it's early stages and thus not that great at it.

Generally i shy away from flash as much as possible, for two reasons,

1) Flash can pose alot of problems for SEO, Accesibility, Usability etc.

2) I know nothing about it.

Generally speaking though, anything that i could of ever needed flash for, i've been able to achieve with JavaScript.

What specifically do you need flash for?

Flash sites can be awesome!!! But also at the same time they have there limits with seo. although thats getting better thanks to <pram> tags and flash also embedding code for search engines into its output of html file.

I would say if you want to make a all action site then use flash but if its just for a music player or a little animated menu or some animated content use html and flash and if you know a little of php you can also set it to see if the user has it and if not then redirect them to a page with out the flash in it...

Another thing that can some times go against flash is the file size. But then again i have seen a simply flash site using just gradients and xml content that was around 51kb for the whole site.

All in all depends on what site your trying to make!

Also think about the long term user experience. I've used a lot of flash sites which look great when you get to them, but everything, naviagtion etc is one big flash movie so boomkarking doesn't work, page navigation doesn't work and the general useage just feels "weird" compared to a regular web page. I think that often leads to visitor retention and the number number of returning visitors taking a farily heft hit.

Far better if you can code the pages in HTML and then integrate flash movies seamlesslly, just for the bits which are much easier to do in flash than say javascript.
