August 25, 200917 yr Hi, I have a client that want's to sell his music from his website. I can design the website and then create it in css using the assistance of dreamweaver. I would very much like to pass the shopping basket trolley part to someone else. The client want's me to do everything. Is there a company that deal with the security aspect and eveything else?? I don't want the head ache of having to do the shopping trolley part, is there a easy way around this??? What is your advice.. I need to tell the guy tomorrow if I'm taking the job on! Thanks, Ben
August 26, 200917 yr try using paypal or googlecheckout. they both supply easily installed shopping carts and basket buttons.

August 26, 200917 yr I'd say Paypal buy now buttons are the easiest/quickest method. Paypal take a rake off, but so do all the other systems.
August 28, 200917 yr If you want to go down the Credit card type payment route, i would suggest firstly looking at the Open source shopping carts, bare in mind the client will probably have to obtain a mercahnt account... A less stressful way could be to go with a host that has the software preinstalled (so all you have to do is run the installer and your there!) The benefit of the open source stuff is that they have a great community if you require help. Let us know how you get on. Jonathan

Every payment processor will take their fees somewhere along the line, Paypal is actually one of the cheapest methods of accepting payments. If he doesn't want to use Paypal you'll need to use a payment procesor like Sagepay or Worldpay. He'll need a Merchant bank account as well, these can be had from his local bank or Sagepay/Worldpay can offer the same. Either way there are fees to be paid

I spoke to Netbanx and was informed that only the really big websites like amazon will have there own payment console all the other websites use hosts like netbanx that act like a middle man that offer a secure payment channel for customers. As they were willing to help with the payment process I thought this would be the best option plus using (I think) ecommerce to download a shopping trolley already coded. The client started to seem like a scam artist as he was very insistent that no one else would be involved it would be him solely and no other middle men. He had shown me paper work with a merchant account approved by nat west but I did not feel comfortable with his rude comments about the previous web designer he had working for him and then his attitude to having money directed straight into to his account. It was a big job for me and I didn't think I would have the expertise to code a database that would receive money and then unlock a music file to be downloaded! Especially not for the £300 to £500! I don't usually advise it but that's their choice The client started to seem like a scam artist as he was very insistent that no one else would be involved it would be him solely and no other middle men. Hmmm... sounds dodgy. Even so, to take card numbers directly the server/site needs to be PCI compliant, they need their banks authorisation to take internet orders using that method, and they'll need a merchant account + Point Of Sale terminal and the rest of it. That doesn't come free either, the bank will take their cut somewhere. It was a big job for me and I didn't think I would have the expertise to code a database that would receive money and then unlock a music file to be downloaded! Especially not for the £300 to £500! That's a little on the cheap side
