You need an attractive template since the site targets with web design.It looks simple and plain now and color schemes are not much impressive.Moreover there are some alignment issues to note down.One in footer the text is outside the border and the categories under the services on topmenu is not aligned properly.Check it out.

It's absolutely brilliant. I think it's very individual, and beautifully clean. I don't believe that netrider's quite understood the concept you've gone for, which isn't "flashy portfolio", and I applaud you for that. Great job! Just so that you know though, on your services pages, that right column of services, you need to make the <a> tags the full size of the <li> they're inside of. Blog is looking great!

Hey Netrider, MolotovRoss spoke correctly, I'm not going for a flashy, "webdesigny" appearance but rather a clean, elegant site that communicates easily. Take a look at www.minimalsites.com. Regarding the footer text and misaligned services dropdown, what browser are you using? Thanks for the input.

 

 

 

And thanks Russell! I actually noted that error today, It used to be fine way back when I first built it, but I likely overrode a class by mistake.

I agree with Russ... what you've gone for is refreshing, interesting and full of fantastic details (my personal favourite being the 'pie charts' on the menu dropdowns). I always think these minimalist, typographical designs are the hardest to get right and show real skill - a bit like drawing the perfect circle freehand.

 

I get it I truly do... the only couple of things I would suggest trying out is making the font a teeny bit bigger (maybe it's just my old eyes) and a teeny bit darker to help legibility, just differentiate links a teeny bit more and break some of the text up into more manageable paragraphs. That's not to ruin what you're aiming for - but to help readability and usability - and I'm only talking slight tweaks. The monolithic blocks of text look like a design choice (and they do look good as typographic elements) but they also need to be readable so some aesthetic compromise?

It is a fantastic site. I really like it. The only thing I'd change is to agree with wizely's suggestion and make the font ever so slightly bigger and a tad darker. Great work!

looks very good, except the font issue - have you looked on a pc? maybe your mac fonts look nicer but on mine i think i'm left with georgia and it's way small at equivalent of 11px and windows anitaliasing which is normally fine (no mac jibes please makes it look thin and broken up.

 

remember in your css you only need quotes around fonts with more than one word as a name so where you have

"Garamond" you need only

Garamond

 

and you should specify a generic one at the end, in this case,

... Garamond, Georgia, serif; }

 

it reminds me of http://www.alistapart.com/ in a good way and once you have the font sorted then it will be a cracking site!

 

oh - one grammatical mistake

i think you meant "viewers' "

 

oh - your links need to far more definition! at that font size it's near impossible to tell that they are a different colour, try underlining them

Absolutely agree. It's fab.

 

However I also agree with the last few comments - the text is slightly awkward to read. I think you do have to have a serif font with your header to get the feel, so maybe just knock the size up ever so slightly?

Can't add much more other than what has been pretty much said already. I love the simplicity of your site. My only very small criticisms would be that the colour of the nav bar background looks like a very faded peach (pinkish?) colour to me, rather than a sort of parchment shade which I'm thinking you are going for? That may just be an issue on my laptop though (or my eyes???), so I guess others could tell you more.

 

I agree with the comments about the main text being slightly too small to be easily readable, but I think (forgetting the issues mentioned) the quality of your layout is superb as is the overall appearance.

Hey thanks for all the feedback! After taking a look on a Windows computer, I noticed that the rendering is a little different, and no, they don't like small fonts. On a Mac it wasn't too bad though .

 

Dave P - Oh wow, I didn't even know about the quotes, I thought they were for non-interbrowser-safe fonts for some reason, I'm learning every day! And thanks for the grammatical pointer, I'll have to read the site over again just in case. I feel honored to be compared to A List Apart .

 

Acej - Man, it seems that the color tone I chose heavily varies since it's a subtle off-grey. On my computer it's beige, on my girlfriend's it's brownish, and so now to hear it has a pinkish look concerns me a tad! Does anybody know if changing the color hue slightly will effect the cross-screen color appearance to co-ordinate more?
