So i brought a pc mag today, micropc or something i cant remember the name of it atm,

 

But it was focusing on Chrome OS due to release next year and the Source code released later this year if i remember correctly,

 

 

From what i read, this looks like a very good OS if you are constantly online and on constant move, I don't think it will replace desktop OS but for the netbook market this OS looks like a winner to me, if i had a netbook it would be Chrome OS(from what i've seen or windows 7).

 

I'll upload some images later of what it is supposed to look like, a little sneak if no one as seen any yet, to me it looks like a linux and mac os mash up.

 

Correct me if im wrong here, but if i recall what i read i think its based off the linux kernal anyway.

Interesting post! - I saw the same on one of the PC covers this week, but didn't pick it up to read further. A little googling revealed it's aimed at Netbooks (Though must assume it will go into the Desktop market??) - Something definitely worth keeping an eye on, though I can hear web dev's cry - "Not another browser operating system/browser combo to cater for!"

 

Would love to see some pics from the system, I for one haven't seen anything.

What makes you think the traditional "desktop" will be around forever? Minimal OS's are the future with all your software accessible only online.

 

Think of the advantages for software manufacturers - software as a service, paid subscriptions, piracy virtually zero.

 

And the advantages for end users - no more installing software, and no more upgrading (apart from the browser/OS)

From what i read and remember its an open source OS like linux and it will be free like linux which is all good, because it will be easier to pick up then linux if people dont want mac or windows. Their main market is netbooks, but whats from stopping you dual booting with windows, as the gamers will want to keep DX on their systems.

And i agree with BlueDreamer it does seem to be the way things will lead to in the future, just when and how? Google are doing something new, and new isnt always good, but to me this OS looks very promising, I'll definetly be trying it out on release.

I suppose it will be great and it can only get better from Google. I'm not like the mash up of the two operating systems though but then I suppose how different can you get?

 

Hope they do well and may consider getting it for a trial

Hopefully it will get better as it is Google.

 

and if i trial it, it will be on a laptop most probably as that is the market it is designed for, but let's just hope the driver support is there!

Yeah it looks like a much, much better solution for netbook owners - it means you wont need so much storage (cloud storage) and pc specs - brilliant!

 

It'll also spur companies on to speed up their 3G connections!

In all honestly to me, it looks as though google is targeting the right market to get into the OS sector of the market. To me netbooks seem to be the most neglected on software, where if you got gOS installed it looks like alot more people will use a netbook because of the Cloud connectity and the storage will be in a different location.

 

Just gotta get myself a netbook and a 3G dongle now
