.mobi website worth it or not?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a couple of decent domain names with .mobi - is it worth developing them, is it that hard??

not really, .mobi is just using valid xhtml, and making pages small so they dont have 100000's of imgs or reams of text IMO

It depends what you plan on doing with them, it isn't worth it to use them for the sake of using them, but if you have an idea that could work then go for it and try.

I'm not sure you'll find many .mobi domains in the search engines. Unless you have a really useful site and a marketing campaign either online or offline then whats the point.

Hi,

I think it can be, i'd like to build one myself, but mobiles are still a little sketchy when it comes to real browsing functionality, this is what we're up against:

a lot of service providers colse the connection after the page has loaded making any form of login system almost impossible,

Many phones dont support cookies,

Access speed and price (essecially in the uk) are rediculous,

On some phones some scripting formats are not supported eg javascript and believe it or not css :o

I would say hang on to them for now, phones are getting better.
