thoughts and feedback on the atmosphere of the site, concerned somewhat at present that the navigation may not be 'present' enough and may be getting outshone by other layout elements. portfolio section returns a PHP error this I know. I've cross-checked it, it's W3C validated.

It looks very much like it belongs to a new-age shop, which may be what you were looking for?

 

It looked a bit odd to me that the home page header was the same colour as the rest of the page and on other pages it had a tint.

 

I also read through the About page and saw some obvious grammatical errors - they need to be fixed in order to look professional... examples being

 

...currently based in the United Kingdom

...with the help of others - developed a taste for design

...various Photoshop elements

...original intentional editing and White Tree retains no credit for this work.

I think the website is good. I like the colour schemes and the way the background fits in great with the main section of the website. The one thing I would say is that the main section of the website looks very narrow. I am not sure what it is. I think it may be the logo, but of you made the section bigger it would be easer to see the logo and navigation. Also i would like to add that your footer is very nicely done.

found the navigation no problem and every thing else seemed fine to me.

I dunno if its just me, but I kinda find it odd to have the blog as the homepage? Think it looks better when theres a normal page, which includes stuff like what you do? Then link to the blog and other pages via that? Can include like the latest blog entry into the page, but in my opinion it looks a bit odd to have that as the index page.

 

I love the background though, its very mystical. As STWebDesign said, the footer is very nicely done!

I also agree with smoothonline, some sort of effect on the navigation, something to highlight current page and something on hover maybe?

On the contact page I would personally put the contact form at the top, and the social network bit at the bottom, as I think the contact form is maybe more important for clients?

I reckon it just needs some tweaking to give it that pezaz. Personally I think you could drop the upside down writing on the logo as it looks like a continuation, rather than a repeat, of 'white tree design'. It only serves as extra noise and would make the name stand out more without it. Apart from that I like the logo.

 

As for the atmosphere it just needs that extra pop to really stand out. It's ok as it is but could be better with a little fine tuning.

 

For instance there are a few issues relating to perspective that could do with correcting. The main one being the white dots. When behind the central content box they should be a lot duller than the others to give the illusion of space and seperation.

 

There also seems to be a lot of blurring and pixelation noise going on (is that what you was going for?). Although not essential, the background image could do with being a higher resolution. Everything could do with being a higher res thinking about it.

 

You should also look at the shadowing around the content box. Apart from there being rounded shadowing on square boxes i'm not sure it looks right. Removing the shadowing around the edges and giving it clearly defined edges could really make it stand out. As would changing the opacity of those swirl patterns (not by much though).

 

Catering for the 800x600 fosils works ok for this because it shows plenty of the clouds on modern screens, which give a nice effect. If crowbar'ing in content becomes an issue though I wouldn't hesitate in widening to around 900/1000px.

 

Personally I don't even consider 800x600 users, 1024x768 is the lowest I think about. A lot of the analytics are showing a big increase to larger screens recently, i'm guessing due to low cost and people upgrading crappy pc's. check this out http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp
