ecommerce advice ?

Featured Replies

I have a client that requires a payment script with stock control which would remove the product once stock runs out. Most importantly they dont want a shopping cart, so there looking at a buy it now button linking directly to payment.

Initially i thought an ecommerce script such as magento. I managed to remove the cart from most pages in magento but it was still needed to checkout, i convinced the client it was nothing major and had magento installed on there web server only to find the server couldnt handle it, it was taking too long to load everything so we decided to scrap magento. Ive since tried Prestashop but couldnt find anyway to remove the cart.

Im now thinking a custom script would be better just i dont know where to start with this. I understand basic php and sql so its not really in my interest to build one from scratch im rather hoping theres something already available.

Does anyone know of anything out there ?

The problem with oscommerce is there are lots of known vulnerabilities, i actually suggested oscommerce but they knew about these vulnerabilities.

Ill check out zencart.

I'm a bit confused as to what you are looking for. First you say you don't want all the checkout bits, but then you say you need a method of payment - that's exactly what a checkout does, takes payment for an order!

So by my understanding you want:

1. A database of products

2. Stock control mechanism to remove sold items

3. Ability to place orders

4. method of payment

If I'm write then a shopping cart is what you need unless I'm missing something you haven't told us?

can you walk us through the process how you see it, from the start to the end...

Im confused too, but thats right i need a database of products with stock control and the ability to checkout and pay.

Basically from my understanding what the client wants is a home page listing the number categroies (0800,0844, 0845, 0870). Clicking one of these categroies would then link to that categories list of numbers e.g.

TITLE-0800 NUMBERS

List of Products

  • 080076853993 PRICE £" BUT IT NOW
  • 080089593838 PRICE £" BUT IT NOW

Clicking the buy it now button would then preferably send the user directly to checkout where they would select payment and pay. Currently its set up so that clicking the buy it now button adds the product to the cart where the user then hits the checkout button, ive convinced the client the cart is nothing major and there happy to go ahead with a cart in place.

After some concideration both i and the client have decided to go with cre loaded which is based on oscommerce so im planning on customising this to their requirements, unless theres an easier way ?

To be frank, the customer needs "re-alligning"

Eaactly why dont they want a cart?

Exactly why dont they want a customer to purchase more than 1 product at once - it doenst make sense - to purchase 2 items, they will need to make 2 payments - which is a pain in the armpit

you could consider keeping the cart but "stripping it out"

If the server could not handle magneto - You need to think "why" if the version of PHP / SQL is too low - then you may have a security issue that needs resolving, if the server is set up in such a way that Magneto wont instal, you need to ask why, NOW, before you jump packages

If you dont know why, then you might as well assume the server is full of security holes etc.

TopShopper may do the job. You can go straight to the checkout and there is simple stock control. Very easy to set up.
