Website Hosting

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me.

I have a couple of websites that are ready to upload, and was looking at this package. But I have been reading posts on here about unlimted bandwidth etc.. and its not getting good reviews.

I have just come across a website that has this hosting package:

1000mb hosting

10gb bandwidth

host 5 domains

£65 a year.

Link.

Is that sufficient bandwidth? and a good price?

Can anyone recommend a good web hosting company that i can host several websites on for different businesses? Would each domain get their own control panel?

Thanks

Chris

get a reseller hosting account, the most popular on this forum are heart internet, cs new media, wesh.co.uk, peatree and no-wires.co.uk

you will pay anywhere from £20 - £100 a month depending on # of sites, bandwidth, space etc

You're right, unlimited bandwidth actually isn't, and you're storing up trouble if the sites get really popular.

I use CS New Media - here are their shared Linux packages. You control the whole thing with Plesk, and if you want to, I think you can give each domain an administrator account just for that domain.

CS servers are fast and stable, and customer support is great. I have Windows and Linux reseller packages with them, and am considering a VPS.

PS. They don't pay me to say nice things about them - I do it because I want to.

Sorry if this seems a silly questions. What’s the difference between windows and Linux hosting? Obviously hosted on different platforms, but are they different control panels? Different features?

Also, on http://www.csnewmedia.co.uk, the advanced package will allow me to only have 2 domains is that correct? It says domain alias but that’s not the same thing is it?

Thanks

Chris

It's hard to put a price on hosting, when some hosts offer 1,000TB disk space whilst others offer only 1GB, and it could be at the same price.

Steamline commonly oversell their servers and therefore website performance struggles. We've recently had a few customers move from them because of constant problems. You might want to reconsider balue.com as their servers are in US, not UK.

If you need separate cPanel logins for your accounts, you should look at a reseller account. We offer these from £9.99 per month if you're interested.

You're right. Pick the package that offers enough domains - if you need more than 6 and you like the idea of using CS, you could go for the Reseller Lite. I think it's still a pretty reasonable price for what you're getting.

Domain aliases are a way of having more than one domain point at the same site - so yes, they're different. One use for aliases is to have mydomain.co.uk and mydomain.com point to the same set of pages.

Hi,

Thanks zigpress for the great info!

One more question, im looking at nowires.com http://no-wires.co.uk/uk_shared_web_hosting.php and for £49 a year i can host up to 10 domains? is that correct? My clients wouldnt get their own control panels, but i dont think they would need to access them to be honest.

Also, with the reseller lite, that can host 25 domains? and the customers would get their own control panel? Do you think that the disk space and bandwidth would handle 25 websites?

Thanks for all your help!

Chris

The no-wires looks like good value, but I've never used Cpanel, so I don't know whether you can give your customers their own logins. You could ask them :)

With the CS Reseller Lite, you can definitely do that if you want (I have for a few customers), and I'm having no trouble with capacity yet. 5Gb is a lot of disk (websites are rarely over 20Mb each unless they're galleries or something). 50Gb bandwidth gives you 200,000 page views a month if your average page size (including images) is about 250Kb.

Hiya Zig

Cpanel is somewhat easier to use than plesk, and thats not just me saying that, many or our own customers who have migrated from plesk servers have also noticed how much easier it is to do things in cpanel.

Also, if your average page size is 250kb, then there is a big problem somewhere as thats around 10x the size it should be closer to, on average.

Google for example wont index pages over 100kb (So they say, and from what they do index)

We dont and wont do reseller accounts purely because it just add's a single point of failiure to the end customer when we go out of our way to ensure multiple redundancy plans, only to wind up with a reseller who hasnt paid a bill or is in hospital and the end customer loose's out.

You can host up to 11 seperate websites on our cpanel plans, but they wouldnt have their own independant logins, it would all be under 1 cpanel account which you could seamlessly upgrade/downgrade as needs be.

Think ill end up going with either no-wires as there prices seem to be best, or MH as they have been very helpful!

Seconding Wesh's point over cPanel... We run it on our servers for shared hosting because it is considerably easier to use than Plesk (however plesk has some really nice advanced features) which ha a steep learning curve...

Our Business and Corporate packages priced at £10 and £15 come with Reseller / Multi Domain Permissions which allow you do give each of your sites their own control panel login. We don't limit the number of sites you can create as long as you stay within your allocated resource limits :)

Servers are in the UK, On an extremely fast network (both public an private which has been recently upgraded and expanded) and we have very satisfied customers :)

I didn't mean 250Kb of HTML...

ha ha ha, DOH, indeed, if its a gallery page, then yeah, that would be typical.

Beena long day, gonna climb back under the rock...
