Hi,

Has anyone come across good open source software for creating a magazine / online community website? Ideally, we're looking for something that comes with a cms and is fairly easy to use. Any help would be appreciated.

Wordpress?

Very easy to use. Your allowed to manipulate codes to your preference and its not very hard to edit at all. Just need knowledge of PHP. You can purchase magazine themes for about $40 or so

Thats great. Thanks. Do these themes have databases as well?

The themes don't use databases, only the core wordpress files use a database.

Themes are just imported via the admin control panel, and the admin can choose what one the front end user see's.

If this is your first time using wordpress i recommend downloading it and if you havent got hosting allready, try it out and mess around with it, download a free theme and mess around with it so you can get a feel for its features and plugins it has.

But wordpress is what you are looking for.

We've downloaded a wordpress theme and think this may provide the solution. To make the site really work it would be great if we could partner up with a web designer (someone who understands how to make wordpress really tick and perhaps also databases). We're a UK pr agency (PRHQ) with experience of print publishing. The idea is to create and run a community orientated online magazine aimed at a niche but highly profitable market. Our director is Kizzi Nkwocha who is a pretty well known media figure. Is there anyone who would be interested in a project like this?

As in the Nigerian PR/Publicist who had some kind of involvement in the aftermath with that random person being interviewed on the news instead of being interviewed for a job?

I'm interested can you pm me about this and project details etc. ?

I like your explanation.... Very precise! :p

But yeah I think you have the man :)

But yeah, I think you would be best running with wordpress :)

Best of luck with your project.

Lol, I'm not so good with explanations, but i used the incident as a case study earlier this year in media, and the name rung a bell from that.
