WebTechGlobal Introduction - Students Wanted Also

Featured Replies

Hi all nice forum, another username and password in my list of LastPass forum/blog entries lol

My name is Ryan Bayne and I studied Web Design & Development at the Univesity of Abertay in Scotland. I finished 2009 so not that long ago. I've had time to start a portfolio and my own website www.webtechglobal.co.uk. My activity over the last few months has gained some attention of very influencial people, I'm far from getting a deal however.

I'm currently looking for team members to further develop current projects and projects to come...

1. http://www.click4click.co.uk (First phase complete, live but further development required)

2. http://www.1sthottub.co.uk (On Hold)

3. http://www.asboalert.co.uk (Not Started)

There are plenty more websites to come also.

People who know they need to invest time for free to get anywhere should contact me! Everyone I studied with are still trying to get paid work and failing badly. For the right people I have the chance of a Limited Liability Partnership, all above board and legal. It will require investment of our time (myself included) with the only payment being any profit from the projects we complete. You and I would be legal shared owners of the project no matter what.

If you have spare time and believe in the importance of investment for the long run then please contact me. I'm especially looking for a girl who is good at administration (they naturally are) and photoshop, a good PHP & MySQL programmer needed and someone who has all round knowledge of WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and osCommerce.

All opportunity is for students only. I myself just finished studying in May and only want to open the door to those who need a chance even if it will take sometime to put money in our pockets.

I'm from Fife in Scotland so interested in anyone near this area. I have big ambition and a lot of projects to complete all of which I am happy to share under the LLP.

Thanks

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

first of all, welcome to the forum.

I understand what you are trying to do, and say good on you for trying. but specifying Student Only is going to limit your options, as 95% of this forum dont fall under that.

I also think you need to consider specifying that it has to be a girl for the admin side of things, as that is almost an insult the way i read it. Both to us blokes who project manage and do the admin side, and to girls that are amazingly brilliant at webdesign and development.

Way to break UK law...

  • Author

UK laws more like EU laws, we're not independant anymore and if I was to follow EU laws (and this was a job being advertised) I would need to offer it on the Job Centre Plus website for 2 weeks and then allow someone from outside the UK to get the job. Is that what your pushing at?

Saying what you want in the UK, your opinion and what you prefer is against the law but only accepting, taking, asking for, demanding and then getting what you really wanted; is not. However there is no difference and I'm not going to pretend otherwise, I don't mess around and I'm aiming to continue making fast progress that's all really guys.

I'm just realistic. There is much worse going on our world or UK society and I want a femining administrative touch for clients who need it and that is everyones best interest, that is what matters. The law does not apply anyway. Equal opportunity only applies when the position is official under a registered company or something along those lines, if I understand Law at Uni, maybe I never but I passed! lol

Look at this way, do you think men should be hired to pose across the latest Japanese sports car or at least led to believe they are allowed to apply to suit a mans face? Society is filled with plenty similiar examples and it is the same for this. I want female qualities in a specific team role where other roles require male or female.

Tip toeing around like you suggest won't get anyone anywhere, out of curiosity just how has your way of thinking worked for you?

Female are hired for sports car photo shoots because the majority buyers are males thus that makes them the target market, and attractive big boobed lasses will help sell the cover, so it is purely the physical attributes that are required, rather than their brains.

Being female I am now curious as to what these attributes girls have that men don't when it comes to this role? I mean you go on and on about how you are allowed to ask for this role to be filled by a girl but don't actually say what these attributes are that make a female better suited for the role... well that is if you want one for more than just the sports car affect to your business, as I understand the differences in those attributes, or if you are just living on a stereotype :p

Anyway welcome to the forum :)

Look at it another way. you have an administrator that is also going to have to close sales. you go with a girl who looks pretty and has a cute voice, Brilliant, all your teenage staff from uni are goign to be too busy day dreaming about her, and not working.

you have a male that has 10 years sales experience (this is why saying uni only is so limiting, unless you are older than the standard uni student, you have no idea of the real world) he will seal 10x the amount of work.

Personally i would go with the people with experience, rather than the eye candy.

Im also curious, you are offering this up as a partnership? yet you are talking as though it isnt a real job, more of a gentlemans agreement and quiet handshake. I would be very wary of anyone approaching it like that.

just my $0.02

I too would be wary but I clearly said but will say it again. An LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) is to be setup which is a goverment recognised type of business. It is fully legal and each member of an LLP has their own protection automatically.

Any student who turns their nose up at that and thinks they will easily find a paid job is not the type of person I want to work with. Sounds harsh but it tells me that despite students being on job seeker allowance they would rather do what they like in their spare time than take a chance on something good. I want someone who has the ability to risk some of their time and effort. Someone who understands the current climate and trust me I know plenty such people. Web Designers with great skill but having no portfolio or work experiance. I offered this opportunity to them and they also turn it down because they need money!

It is a hard decision to take a leap of faith but then I will never work with someone who cannot. I will never hire or put work in the hands of someone who does not trust me or I trust them.

ReaperWD as for your whole "pretty and has a cute voice" thing! What is that all about, I don't recall saying I was keen on building a business relationship with someone based on their looks?!

That is far worse than my initial request for a female administrator. I at the minimum explain my reasons, have reasons and they are all business related. Where as you, you sound like the "teenage staff from uni are goign to be too busy day dreaming about her"! I'm going to guess you think your a person of experiance and sitting on the right side of the fence here so this University graduate does not have a leg to stand on lol

Well this where this University graduate will rise above people like you, quick to judge, quick to hard press laws, quick to try and knock someone doing something good or making an effort. This is where I highlight why I'm the graduate for another graduate to get in contact with and make connections with. I've worked with girls in offices and I've worked with them in the uniform of a soldier. My experiance has taught me the only thing that matters in either case is trust, professionalism and knowing you have each others back.

Having a mixed sex team is highly productive and your comment suggests you would avoid hiring a certain sex because it might turn others in the office on! Are you also afraid of hiring two gays in the same office also?

Actually you should get on to Debate.org where we can avoid turning this thread into flames. I personally am not heated however but I imagine some people may be offended by what you said so I'm ok about this thread being closed actually, just as soon as I put it under my "Computer Ethics" category on my blog.

  • Author

Well look at this study for example...

http://www.unece.org/stats/gender/pdfdocs/...preneurship.pdf

Go straight to page 6 and have a quick browse over it. Now it is not the information in the study that I'm highlighting, it is the fact that the study needed to be done. Not only that, countries gather statistics on Famel and Men.

Why would they do this if sex does not matter?

Here is an article in the Telegraph...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechn...r-than-men.html

Indicating use of science which is where my general thoughts and beliefs come from. I think I mentioned already that I want a female in Admin because that is what my clients need. I need someone who can "cooperate better than men" and don't become too rash or overheated just because a client gets difficult.

Anyone suggesting girls and boys are the same? lol If not are you suggesting the different qualities should not be taking advantage of for the benifit of business?

If I don't force the idea and requirement of hiring a female at all I would end up with an all male team due to the numbers available. I think theres about 5 women in IT for every 35 men or something like that.

when I say I hire I mean participation, this is not job this is an equal slice in a partnership and I've had amazing email responses but not yet got the team so feel free to reply anyone.

Oh and Dizi I love that little cat do you mind if I put it on my girlfriends blog?

Check this out, I used it in a study I done myself but thought I lost it...

http://www.socyberty.com/Sociology/10-Thin...Than-Men.120270

10 points of why women are better than men and all scientifically proven and backed up by Universities that we all know produce genuine results.

Am I educating someone because this is all common knowledge and relationships in the office are much better when these things are understood, especially if your office is a battlefield! No really, a real battlefield is far better off with a womens touch lol

*Dizi notices that still no real reason as to why a female is better than a male in this role has been given and she feels that WebTechGlobal may never actually give a direct answer... She guesses that her asking this in a none aggressive just curious way has been ignored in favour of just blowing more hot air *

Reaper was probably just following on from what I wrote about your car example...which isn't really a good example of your reasoning if you thinks about it.

So I have a new question as you flat out refused to acknowledge my previous question:

Why should someone trust you if you refuse to answer a simple question that has been asked of you in a civilized manner?

You could of quickly solved this problem by explaining why a female is better in an admin role to a male, instead you choose to not address the issue and go out your way to blow a lot of hot air to avoid the underline question. Which to me is not a very professional approach and I am quite insulted that you chose to do this when I took the time to ask you in a respectful, ohh be it maybe slightly jokey way. It just adds to the impression that you have no real reason, which adds fuel to the fire that you have created by not giving a direct answer... so to me that shows that really people can't trust you, as you refuse to just give a simple honest answer to a question that was asked.

EDIT: you posted that last post while I was typing so I will give it a read now :p

Ah hell, while we are throwing links around........

here

Edit: normally in these circumstances, I play the vagina card..... I find it bizarre that I am playing the penis card on behalf of the *ahem* male members

Another interesting link here

 So... interestingly (!) put Madam Mod!

Sorry to say it, but it sounds like this guy is talking out of his @rse.

Indeed..... In fact, the quote.........

makes WebTechGlobal liable to be sued be every single male member of the forum.

Yep, agree with Dizi, Helen & Scott. It's simply not OK to ask for a particular gender for a role, unless there is a Genuine Occupational Qualification (says the qualified former HR officer, my good self in case you were wondering). A GOQ might be an acting role, or for example a job in a shelter for abused women. Anything else is discrimination, and let's face it, leaves a rather nasty taste in the mouth as well.

Well I've studied Law and seen that page and many others like it. It clearly does not suggest anyone is breaking the law.

Are you one of these more modern people who would be happy to have a male nanny look after your newborn? I ask it in looking for an answer. I can't find it but I will however there is a study of the people who have taking legal action for what your suggesting. Questions were giving under lie detection like prefering male teachers over female, male cleaners in female toilets etc The results showed about 89% of people objected to males doing such jobs or had issues with it.

Anyone know that study it was mentioned on TV not long ago on that Loose Women I think it was.

Your all really missing the point anyway because your discussing employment and job positions where a LLP is not a job it is a legal partnership created by no registered company. There is no one to sue, you couldnt sue me the Law does not apply. This is much more like a club with legal protection so members get their fair share. As we all know clubs can be exclusive to a sex even if the clubs purpose is one that the other sex takes an interest in.

That is not a company, a business or workforce. Hence the reason I can ask to work with a girl for my admin side of things if I want! I hope that the person I find can provide a face for websites and stationary. On that basis I could probably get away with asking for female only providing job description covered this.

You ever seen a hosting company like Go Daddy with a guy on the front?

The best graphic designers I have met are girls and they are so good they all got further and faster than any guy I knew who was great at web languages. So I want the combined Graphics+Admin and a male graphic designer also who will not have client interaction or deal with the brunt of the admin.

I'm allowed to do as I see fit for the good of the team but the existing team want this diversity. Its as simple as that really there is nothing to be debated here. It is a great team so far with much opportunity for both sex so I stand my ground and like many debates I take part in. This is another example of how people in the UK are far quicker and more ready to jump on each other than support each other. Its great we have laws for peoples rights but there are far worse laws being broken and I would bet a lot of money that none of you stood outside the HP anytime in last few months and protested? Did you?

Easy to grumble if it takes little effort however yes? It is the British way to not only debate and be a democracy, but now we take every little issue (even government) that one step further to a point where we loose all perspective.

No one has provided any evidence that men might be better than women at the things listed on the sites I gave either which only indicates my team may have higher succession due to my decision. Do you suggest I change my decision to suit some elses face?

  • Author

Aw dam normally I don't get heated up but you guys have so I need to say this before leaving because I have said it so many times and no one read or understands.

THIS IS NOT A JOB!

I AM NOT AN EMPLOYER!

I DO NOT REPRESENT ANY BRITISH REGISTERED COMPANY!

Under the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act it's unlawful for an employer to discriminate against you because:

That is all I should have said above instead of that long post when I'm a busy guy. Now I'm all ears for anyone who has some sort of legislation that applys to a graduate trying to get a good team of developers together. I take criticism on the chin but only good criticism that applys.

Cheers and thanks for commenting everyone it's still very enlightening to see people defending their rights for a position they have no involvment in or plan to apply to!

Ryan

Whatever... hopefully you get the idea that, whatever the legal ins and outs, we simply found your wish for one particular gender rather distasteful.

  • Author

The whole country is distasteful we're not in a lawful and civilised society, not yet!

I did quickly get message on ReaperWD's 1st reply

I'm going to guess you think your a person of experiance and sitting on the right side of the fence here so this University graduate does not have a leg to stand on lol

I have no problem with Graduates or people that are learning and have no portfolio. I have worked alongside 3 people in the last 6 months, helping them with their mistakes, all free of charge off my back and i never made anything out of it, except that i tried to help.

ZigPress, because I want to it is a free to participate forum! Your obviously not very englightened and judge people by a single twinkle of their very self being. I suggest you don't get so easily upset by a single motion by a single person but then that will be why your in a job behind a computer and not in parliament.

ReaderWD that is good just a shame that it is mistakes your helping them help, do you help people when it doesnt give you a ego boost?

There are men who don't become too rash or overheated because a client gets difficult. I believe the scientific term for this is 'behaving professionally'.

judge people by a single twinkle of their very self being

I judge people by their words and actions. Enough said.

  • Author

cheers everyone for taking part I got what I wanted ;) Hope you don't mind me using quotes in the thread within a dissertation on computer ethics.

Oh I do love the forum for you guys moderating it, just has something about it I'll probably fashion a forum based on it sometime when I get around to viewing other topics.

Thanks again

So people give you criticism for being what appears to be in the beginning as you being a sexist jerk, you then proceed to egg them on by just blowing a lot of hot air and not giving a direct answer, and then you have the nerve to act as if your "Netiquette" has been good within this topic... wow I am impressed by your professionalism.

Good luck with your dissertation, I am however a little worried about your chosen topic if you honestly think that you have shown good ethics in this thread. Although maybe you egged us on deliberately in hopes of getting some good quotes, in which case your research is a little flawed as shouldn't it be none biased research, as coming on a forum and being sexist is going to get you a little bit of aggression from members, as you have been quite insulting in here... I guess in a way it shows that members of a forum community are just as likely to stick up for one another and also stand up for what they believe in if they are insulted by someone, which shows good ethics really.

Also the thing that this forum has is a good sense of community and a strong passionate group of regular members who are willing to help out where they can and for the most part everyone is respectful of each other. Sure there are arguments, I guess the only difference between friendships on a forum and in real life is when you have an argument in RL it is said and forgotten, while if you say something on a forum it is there for as long as the forum is, so it can in a way be that little more damaging...but also that lot more funny when it is looked back upon :)....so its not something that you can create it is just something that grows out of those that decide to join, like any community on the computer or in RL.

ReaderWD that is good just a shame that it is mistakes your helping them help, do you help people when it doesnt give you a ego boost?

Teaching people to code strict xhtml and css fluently without the need for dreamweaver or any other WSIWYG isnt really a mistake. I also couldnt really care less if they go away and say "that was great" or say nothing, i am just trying to help the community, and members that have given into this forum, rather than people that come on, cause a big argument by becoming a sexist jerk and then cant admit they are wrong so dissapear.

Reaper

Don't worry Dizi, he's just trolling now that he's realised we all think he's an asshole.

cheers everyone for taking part I got what I wanted ;)

Well aren't you smug! If I could be bothered I'd feel violated.

To be honest, you shouldn't be thanking people, you should be apologising - Zigpress and Reaper for starters. That's not research, that's being insulting and being "a douche".

If it's a psychology study, your research is not balanced. You played a too active part in influencing the response, so has very little worth. Pretty much as as Dizi has already said. Any quotes you use are only of limited value if used within the very provocative context in which they were solicited. Are you backing your research up with an un-provoked control group where you didn't personally insult people?

If it's a journalism degree, congratulations, full marks, have a degree in stirring!

Either way, an honorary degree in arrogance is yours for the taking.

The more cynical could not be blamed for thinking you're looking for an excuse to back-track, because you've made yourself look a bit of a c*ck!

I am sorry, but i need to ask this:

IF you have a bloke, pre-op, would you consider them for the role but make them wait until after they have had it done? how about a woman pre-op, would they have to stop doing the job after they come out of hospital?

Reaper thats funny

Lets see him get out of this one haha

Hmm maybe it's time to close this thread?

  • Author

I think you will find I'm not interested in sex organs I'm interested in the psychology within the sex and if the person has the quality right for the job. Quality usually found in the female side of the species, that was the idea. The fact that such qualities are scientifically proven by our best Universities does not leave much to be debated.

Even the law allows an employer to select the person MORE suitable for the position available. The GOV website for example shows what a judge would call "guidelines" they are not the law. A law takes up pages and pages. The law that matters is the the decision made in any case, that is putting it in simple terms.

If I was an employer and you guys tried to take action you would not have a leg to stand on.

All that aside also, I was (maybe still am!) using the thread to get some material for essay and dissertation. It's sort of a mix of Computer Ethics and psychology. How humans percieve something, change it a little in their mind, apply action in a different context and in the end have broken ethics (not laws) even if by mistake. I've got the backing to write a book on the approach which basically helps us to understand the difference between ethics and law plus why ethics cannot be laws due to human nature.

I suppose someone will object to me quoting you so I decided not to I've only written a summary of the discussion!

As I said before thanks and thanks for your patience. I've been using other areas of the forum ,some good discussions

Ryan

  • Author

IanC I somehow how missed you comment, my final literature includes psychology but is mostly on ethics.

Short reply is...deal with it! Society is filled with examples of people getting something out of people using all kinds of approaches especially when it comes to research. Someone has to kick start the reason in some way no matter what. It's users like Jase and a.g.r.c that I pay particular interest in also. Comments that neither provide argument or help and possibly are examples of how people enjoy this.

Do you object to journalists going undercover and coaxing information out of people? Most people in a debate say no, it might happen to you when you really think about it too!

Now, would you watch the news on a story build around a journalist that used such methods to get a story? Most people say yes however in defense you cannot switch the news off and on depending on the story, would just be silly. The argument however is the fact that we have it in our society, society as a whole must accept it to be in practice and most people don't call into the BBC or ITV and complain when the methods are televised.

Suppose all that matters is that its not illegal and I nevermeant the thread was only started for this purprose! I just encouraged the possibility of such discussion. Us humans we trip ourselves up in conversation all the time, we're so contradicting it is unbelievable. Online we show certain things more than others like how we're ready to apply an ethic that we believe in yet we don't apply the same elsewhere. Its more of an opportunistic approach to taking part in a thread like this IanC for whatever reasons.

Exactly what are your reasons?

Short reply is...deal with it!

In over 20 years of professional experience I've quite happily dealt with being patronised by bigger and better than that!
