I'm using the 30 day trial of dreamweaver 4 and have started to create my website but am struggling on a few things and would be really grateful if you guys could help me out:

1) is there some kind of option to insert a text box onto the design section of the site

2) how do I upload it onto the internet. I signed up for some free web space but no matter what I tried I couldn't get it onto the web space

3) whenever i click live view it just says "The Flash Plugin was not found" and nothing is shown"

Thanks for the help

Dan

1, You can insert your text into any of the Div tags you have created for the structure of your design.

2,To upload to the net you need to set up your servers FTP details in Dreamweavers FTP, when you set up your site (sites>New site) in DW there are boxes for inputing your remote server this is where you put the details of your server, username, password and the address of your hosts FTP server.

3, if you have flash content in your site, it may be missing a plugin that is needed to display it.

are you wanting to put text onto yoursite? or allow visitors to insert text to a selected item, i.e a guestbook.

for that you will need input tags... basic html custimeable with CSS

I wouldnt recommend DW FTP client it is very slow.

try filezilla ftp. its free and comes with a wamp server.

Good Luck

Feel free to post back or pm for further assitance

Hi Dan - dreamweaver is old school ;)

if you are completely new to web site design, give HammerKit a try. It is an online studio toolset that includes everything you need to build and maintain new sites and applications. We have posted a tutorial for complete beginners and you do not need to worry about FTPing as the site you are creating is already live online.

The tutorial is here and there are videos on the site to show you how to do things like creating forms, adding pages, etc.

Hi Dan,

If your looking to learn about Dreamweaver try looking on you tube. I found lots of instruction videos that take you through Div tags and all the other bits you need to know.

Although Liveview is pretty nifty in DW CS4, I still think the best way to preview your work is to open it in a browser (firefox preferably) and refresh it when you want to see changes.

As for getting your work up on the web, you should have an FTP login name and password which you can fill in under Manage Sites in Dreamweaver.

Then you can 'put' you site on the web using the up and down arrows in the file pane, or using the button made of two arrows next to the title box
