June 12, 200917 yr Hi ben. I like your portfolio, especially the variety of work on show. I also like the body background, but I don't really think the header goes to well with the rest of the site. I also feel you should use the same background for the web site links and self portrait as you use with all the other image links and what not.
June 12, 200917 yr heya a couple of things i picked up on: the contents doesnt sit central. there is inconsistancies in the color scheme. For example the top menu and banner doesnt match well with the color/size/gradient of the category titles. There are 35 warnings in your markup. Best to use the image tag seperate from the picture class if the images are different. In the tr try to define % or px in the height. Best not to use tables for designing
June 12, 200917 yr Author Brilliant, good advice, thank you very much. I'll try and adjust some of those things, i'm not to sure how not to use tables though but i'll give it a go.
June 12, 200917 yr first thing that came to mind was... GRADIENT OVERLOAD! just got to many gradients on the page it looks abit messy, the headers on the boxes are horrible and don't match the colour theme, try getting rid of the gradient behind the headers and reduce the font size of them. also i don't like the way it suddenly goes green at the bottom? just seems random and out of place to me? and lastly as 'final' said tables are a no no, they aren't search engine friendly and makes for messy coding. Try looking for some tutorials on how to use DIVs. Like the initial concept though, your on the right track, background image is great! same with the banner i like that too just your content doesn't go with it, seems like you got the inital layout done then got lazy with design of the content. good work
June 15, 200917 yr Author Hiya, okay, I have made some improvements.... www.benevansartist.co.uk I am working out the tables, have done the main body. If tables are only a no no because of search engines, does it matter that bits you don't need searchable are still in tables? other than loading speed? also i am having a bit of a problem with the background without tables. Is it possible to have a background left aligned and right aligned at the same time? It doesn't sound possible! Thanks Ben
June 16, 200917 yr Ben, There are too many bold text ... reduce that. And the design needs some work but Im sure you can rearrange that because you're a graphic designer! Keep up the good work

June 19, 200917 yr Its good, so nice work. The only thing I would pick up on is the contact form at the bottom. It doesn't look like any thought has been put in to the positioning so much and takes it away from looking professional. Just aligning the fields would make it look so much better.
June 19, 200917 yr Author Yeah I hadn't got around to fixing the form and had forgot that I was going to, so thank you for the reminder I have just made it worse But apart from that, I have a problem, I am trying to get rid of all the tables but when I try the to top divs won't quite meet by 1 pixel, and it looks even worse in firefox! Does anyone have any idea's why that is? I can't for the life of me work it out!
June 19, 200917 yr use a css reset style sheet if you are not using table, should fix a lot of the inconsistencies across browsers. Would be tempted to redo section buttons.. great portfolio of work by the way..
