I have a lot of code at the top of my page for preloading images. Is it better not to have this information on the page for SEO reasons?

 

Also, I want to have a roll over effect on my buttons. If I add some normal text links at the bottom of my page as well as the rollover effect, will this still have a damaging effect on my SEO?

Have a look at a Search Engine Simulator to have a look if the search engine can still read the site normally.

Search engine bots view your page without using javascript and without "displaying" images. It's only interested in the content and the semantic info.

Well, although having web pages that are having error free Html and CSS codes can be great, like using the validation programs but you can still many top ranking web pages that are full of errors and yet having great placements because of the links pointing at them.
