March 29, 200917 yr Hi there, This may be a bit of a long shot, but here goes anyway..... A friend of mine had a domain registered and a website designed and hosted by a small local company that has since been declared bankrupt. Im prettey sure that the hosting was done using a third party and i know for definate the registrar was a third party. The problem is my friend now cannot access the email linked to the domain and the website seems to have been pulled. Is there any thing he can do with regards to getting his domain/email and possibly the website back?? I can only assume the hosting package the small company has hasnt been paid resulting in the website being pulled.... The email address and domain are the biggest issue, the website could always be remade, although if he can get it it would be better. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark.
March 29, 200917 yr Did you have access to the domain name? If so its just a case to switching DNS to a new provider and setting up the email. If you are able to contact the 3rd party host (look at the domains DNS nameservers and then whois them) and ask them if you can take over the billing for the website if its not already been terminated.

Hi peartree, As i say this isnt my website (i would have done it a lot different) but unfortunatly the friend in question doesnt have access to the domain. Everything was 'taken care of' by the designer..... Is this going to be a case of registering a new domain because we are unable to contact the designer now too.? Thanks for the response too!
March 29, 200917 yr I'm not sure if this will work but, use a whois service to find out who the domain is registered with, contact them, explain the situation. They may have some legal process you can use to reclaim the domain name. There must surely be some legal process for reclaiming assets lost during bankruptcy but I have no idea what it might be :S
March 30, 200917 yr Go to this website - http://ping.eu/ Type in the domain name in the box, click the WHOIS radio button and do a WHOIS search that way. It should give you an indication of who the nameservers are pointing to - find out who owns them and contact them to sort the hosting out. It could be that the hosting has been suspended rather than cancelled completely.
