Featured Replies

Hi all,

Anyone know of a Free/cheap alternative to Dreamweaver?

Cheers

I haven't used it myself but a ouple of people have recommended Sea monkey.

Post back if you do try it. I'd be interested to know if its any good. :)

Notepad++ is better than standard notepad

Or if you are on a mac then get Coda ;)

I agree, Notepad ++ is well cool!

Version 5.0.3 is available to download now ;)

I third notapad++

I tried aptana, which has more features and lots of bells and whistles, and i still came back to notepad++ pretty sharpish. I didn't know the new versions were out :o

I actually like using either E Text Editor or Quanta. I've actually found though that my code tends to come out cleaner when I don't use a WYSIWYG since the need for me to keep it clean and use comments is increased to keep it easy to find what I need on large pages. As for an open source Text editor Notepad++ is a very nice editor.

By the way I'm new... Looks like a great forum.

I've used notepad++ and aptana for pc - both were great, i just got annoyed at loading time of aptana so i liked notepad++ better. On mac, coda is the #1 choice. I have both coda and Dreamweaver. I use coda.

I can list you a dozen things that pee'd me off within an hour of installing it... gah! I was probably just unlucky or summin though.

Plus it was a bit over complex, which is the reason i don't like dreamweaver, a ton of bells and whistles that i'd have trouble actually using.

Exactly. Coda. Makes. Things. Simple.

I use E Text Editor - It's Mac's TextMate but for Windows, there is a small fee, and it does tend to crash a bit on my work machine but otherwise I love it. It's certainly the best thing I've found so far for the Windows platform.

phpDesigner 2008 for me, there are 2 editions - personal which is FREE and Pro which has a small fee.

Tons of features if you want them as well as project management, file management and auto complete.

How about HammerKit. v3.5 is free to use - fully online studio, server side, no/little coding experience needed...complete design freedom...www.hammerkit.com

Try E-Texteditor for Windows. It is powered with all cool Bundles from Mac's TextMate.

It also has code completion feature. But Dreamweaver has better code completion, what make coding there extra fast.

Can I recommend you check us out. We have a "dreamweaver for the web" - really a web designer friendly design environment...and the current version is free. If you would like an account, just email me mark@hammerkit.com and we can set you up.

Good topic...

I have been using Coda (which is great) buy now I am moving to linux... so I would need more ideas: editos for linux? apart from gEdit...
