I really like the feel and admire your use of fluid layout ... for me two things are a problem: the sides are too snug to the browser edge, and everything just seems way too big.

 

Maybe space your text out a bit more too.

 

Love the colours and the nav.

 

Oh... on your services bit on about page.... text goes way too small compared to the rest...

Looks nice to me, certainly a good advert of your skills.

Apparentley due to my "outed browser" I cannot view your site... o too good for me are ya???

The design is OK, very simple. It doesn't look great at higher resolutions and doesn't seem to flow well though.

 

Also, the colours for the navigation don't go very well in my opinion and the logo seems out of place, although it does look good on your business cards.

 

The footer is very nice, but could do with a tidy.

 

Elements don't seem to have their own real estate on the page, it looks a bit thrown together if I'm honest, with no definite theme.

 

Also, you speak about standards but your code does not validate and has 1 very easily fixed error, I'm sure it's just an oversight but if I client who knew about standards realised, it could jeapodise your chances.

 

Wow though, I have issue 155 of Web Designer Magazine and I've just read through your feature. How did you manage to get that gig?

I think this site could work very well but...

 

At a screen size of 1300x786 it looks a little stretched out. At 1024x786 you need to scroll left and right. As a result there seems to be no optimal size for your site.

 

I also feel things are a little tight on the left hand side.

 

I like your footer, but agree it could be neatened up a little.

 

Your header logo does not stand out and I feel the site needs a title, but that could just be me.

I do think if you made your logo stand out more the color use in your menu would tie in better and make sense.

 

The different use of font sizes within the content area is also a little difficult to get used to.

 

As an aside, I am not sure that having a picture of your self standing in what appears to be a pub is the best thing to have on a site where you are selling your self as a professional.

Again thank you for all the comments. I thought I would try something different with a fixed/fluid layout and missed the bigger resolutions.

 

 

@stylewebdesign : You cannot be serious, you should not be viewing sites in such an antiquated browser. How ever I understand that some people do use IE6, all sites I have done for clients do work nicely in IE6 but for my site at the minute I don't want it.

 

@Gareth - Web Design Liverpool : Thanks for pointing that error out, that was a new addition after I already validated. But thanks. The editor liked some of my designs I had done, if you missed the rollover on the image, I am on page 101. Send your work to the editor, the address is on their website and you could be featured too. My next task is to get to the front of the mag :-)

 

@caraewilton : What could make my logo stand out any more? Which content area are you speaking of, for the font sizes? The homepage doesn't need a title as its the homepage, all other pages do and the navigation shows different active states depending on what page you are on. The picture is of me in the Guinness museum shop on St Patricks Day.
