I'm working on a site for a youth project. They want a site that can be updated regularly with text and images of their day trips etc whilst still looking good.

 

Obviously creating a CMS from scratch would be the best solution but they don't have the money for that so I'm trying to use a pre-made script.

 

At first I thought WordPress but now I'm thinking maybe Expression Engine or something else Has anybody got any recommendations?

I'd probably recommend WordPress with a good gallery plugin (don't use the default "shortcode" facility or whatever it's called).

 

Wordpress is so easy to skin, and if they're talking about pics of events, then a blog metaphor is perfect, because events take place on a partcular date.

Could you recommend a good gallery plugin?

I've been looking at WordPress, MODx, SilverStripe and Expression Engine for this but I'm not sure which is best suited to the site I'm making.

 

The main feature of the site will be that there are going to be lots of image galleries so if anybody can reccommend a CMS with good image gallery plugins etc.

Any of those 3 would do the job, it's just a case of seeing which is going to be the easiest, for you to develop, but most importantly the one that your client prefers because they're the ones who will have to use it.

 

I've not used ModX and I rarely touch WP, but as a regular ExpressionEngine person I'd obviously head that way because EE has an integrated gallery system and you don't need to faff around with plugins/modules.

Its easy to mod and has a large range of plugins.

ExpressionEngine by far, not only has an integrated gallery its the easiest to customize and much more advanced.

The gallery is excellent as well and makes it easy to upload and resize including a "batch" folder to process a lot of images all at once.

Main thing is it is easiest to customize and the templates are editable much easier than others. A small license fee is quickly made up for on time savings.
