Hi Everyone

 

My first post I am getting a 1 page basic 'static' website made for me, and would like to user the small black font that's on the website (http://www93.hattrick.org/). Does anyone here know what that font might be? The website company have asked me what it is.

 

Are there any similar fonts I might be able to request? I just want a similar font that is neat, small and jet black.

 

The website company wrote:

 

"Regarding the font, do you know what the font is, as we have a limited number of fonts we can use. This is because, we have the ones that would be most web friendly, for example ones that would appear on most peoples browsers"

 

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

It just looks like Verdana to me... Verdana with a style of Bold

 

Welcome to the forum. I'd be a bit worried that the company building the site can't identify a font based on this... weird!!

Who are the company that are building your site out of interest? Do you have a link to their site?

LOL, that is shocking! One quick look at the CSS is all it takes... depending on which fonts the person has installed on their computer, it should verdana, helvetica or sans-serif. Maybe it's a guy on work experience?

Even on work exp it would be a shocking lack of basic knowledge, not only that but it would take less than 5 mins to compaire the most likely matches in photoshop.

If they don't know their fonts, then they don't know their web design. Sorry, but I think you're in for a rough ride.

The font is Verdana, size 8. However, I recently came across this article, which makes me wonder whether it's a good choice of font. Although I never had any problems with Verdana, I'm not sure what to think of it now - it definitely is a very nice font, though.

 

Strange that your web designer didn't recognize it.

WTF? I really don't know where he got that from - no-one believes that these days. I wonder why he thinks he's qualified to say things like that? I'd bin that bookmark if I were you - you'll get better advice from many folks on here...

Good point. I also noticed his site looked awful.

Fonts are a funny thing... I normally favour Verdana or Arial (or occasionally Trebuchet), and the graphic designer who works with me is a Tahoma nut, so we're always fighting about it

 

Still, at least we both agree that Times New Roman should never be seen on a website unless it's big enough to be properly anti-aliased by all browsers - and even then...

Oooph, I've never liked Times New Roman really. I can stand Georgia, but Times, nope. hehe

lol I'm a trebuchet or tahoma man myself for most things.

 

TNR does have it's place, but as stated, only in large sizes, and for certain projects.

Yeah I must admit I'm pretty shocked that they can't identify the font for me. As mentioned here, it would have been good if the Client Executive who is doing it for me had at least used Photoshop or something to quickly compare the font in my example to what they actually have available on their Content Management System...instead of putting the onus entirely back on me, who has no website design experience. I had initially provided them the link to (http://www93.hattrick.org/) as my requested font, or something similar.

I have had to pay £50 for the 1 page website and they design a logo also, and told by Chooboo that it would normally cost £500+ if I wasn't doing it via the 'Go For It' programme.

 

In two previous emails to the Client Executive I wrote "For my website, there is a nice font and colour of text used on (http://hattrick.org/'>http://hattrick.org/). The text is small, should fit everything in nicely, and still very readable." and in another email ""With regard to the standard content width, I'm hoping you can use the nice small black font I mentioned from (http://hattrick.org/) on a pure white background, as opposed to the Ruth's Rascals font I previously mentioned."
