Dating Site in the Making

Featured Replies

Greetings,

My website is incomplete, as it still requires a User Profile template installed. Sebastian Sulinski is currently helping me with the more technical aspects of the website, such as MySQL database work, which is a bit over my head at this time. I would appreciate any critique you may have, positive or otherwise. Thank you! ~ BriGuy B)

Hi Meshach,

Although I would agree that there are alot of Dating sites out there, it doesn't mean that there isn't room for more developement opportunity. With all due respect, that is a rather narrow view. Diversity provides for more choices. Certainly nothing wrong with that! Brace yourself Meshach, I would be willing to bet that by the turn of the century you are going to see a whole lot more dating sites, auto sites, music sites, political sites, web design sites...

Take care.

Not have a fan at all sorry, there's a cliché around dating websites, just check out the site of someone I know: Complete D8ing, he has a load of seperate sites.

They're so easy to set up: www.whitelabeldating.co.uk, it's free you know lol... You just have to promote and start earning money. Ridiculous.

your site isnt making me go wow i wanna get me some of that! There is nothing drawing me in or even telling me what i will find when i enter.

The site name isnt giving anything away with regards to which niche your targeting.

From what I understand from dating sites being sold and valued etc they are worth roughtly $1 per member so dating sites are potentially very lucrative, they also give you the contact details of people who may be interested in products from your niche which will generate ad income and maybe even income promoting your own products.

imo you need to take a step back from the site and think, who am i targetting? its very very competative in the mainstream (unless you have an amazing UI - maybe) and you will have some luck in some minority groups, eg (over 18) harry potter fans - they are all lonely weirdos who need some luvin, or WOW gamers... give people who cannot connect yet a way to connect.

let us know what u think

It doesn't work for me.

It lacks style, just in my opinion.

The red and black is kind of ugly together. The font is not that flattering. A nice simple font (verdana maybe 10pts) would look better. The hearts at the top are kind of cliched.

I do like the navigation menu.

Think it needs to be cleaner and a more inventive colour scheme,

I agree, the colors clash and makes the site look a tad bit Halloween-y. The heart animation does flaw the sites look, a revision on how the hearts animated could make the site look better.

I'm not particularly fond of the thick border when I'm told to log in, and the "<back", I understand the site is still being revised so keep us posted on how you get on.

stop the banner after its introduced its name, otherwize its just introducing itself over and over in a loop....

lolololololol...a dating site for "WOW gamers". :yahoo: (sorry for the ecstatic smiley)

He's right though...it's easier to have a target audience than to take on the world.

1. I cant see this working because of the competition from the bigger sharks

2. Examine the business models of existing dating websites, you will notice that they dont ask for a subscription on signing up straight away to allow you to sample their services and see whats out there

3. Expanding on from no.2 no one is going to want to pay $20 to join an empty dating site (this is ann assumption based on you saying its in the making), so please PLEASE give people the incentive to join by making entry free.

Hi

If you believe that website is up for it - then stick by your guns.

I think it is doomed.

Good luck

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the positive input!

Thanks for the comments. I have reconsidered and offering a 14 day trial rather than the $20 sub upfront.

It all comes down to having an angle. Mine is simply "doing a WalMart" and giving them more for less. What site do you know of where users get a chatroom, instant messaging, webcam, complimentary flash mp3 player and a completely editable profile page with unlimited uploading all for $20? You guys are also missing the big picture...even if I only had 50 signups a month, which is extremely conservative, I'm still bringing in $1000 a month. That already pays for my Webhosting and Webcam streaming in the first month. I do agree about allowing for free signups however. It will get some users on the site right away. Thanks for that.

Ditto on all these points.

Walmart = the worst shopping experience in history and you want to have that???

I admire your persistence. It's the basic driving factor in every entrepreneur.

WalMart creates and sustains pressure on ALL angles / stakeholders.

-Lowest price keeps people coming back

-Largest Inventory keeps suppliers wanting a piece

-Lowest price forces suppliers to offer their low price

-Efficiency in distribution...Quality Control...the list goes on....

In order to be that big, and to stay that big, you need quite an impressive list of skills/resources to begin with...you can't simply grow to that size using the same model.

"even if I only had 50 signups a month"...now that's smarter thinking...back to the basics.

Q2. The Ultima Dating website does not display properly in the Mozilla Firefox browser. What is wrong?

Q2. Mozilla utilizes what is known as the "WC3 Compliant" code for designing their browsers. As a result, website tables (borders) as well as several other assets do not display the same way as in Internet Explorer. This has been an annoying issue for many website designers. We suggest using Internet Explorer. Thank you.

The above is taken from your faq page. Please tell me you're not serious???!

Hi

I gave you a positive answer. I said” If you believe that website is up for it - then stick by your guns”.

You must always back your own belief in life, which was the point I was making.

From a design point of view the face is very sleazy. That formed my immediate opinion and it hasn’t changed, because there is a face for every website and that one is pretty ugly.

If you can give it a face lift and make it look attractive, it will then appeal to those who visit the website first and foremost.

However, such website’s must be worded like a love letter on their initial face, to touch upon our emotions and ignite our hormones and then you will get visitors, who will become members.

So stick by your guns and go for it, because it will be interesting to see how things progress.

Good luck

That's funny, everyone else I know that has seen it says it looks great. Also, hearts are never a cliche' when it comes to romance, otherwise Valentines Day is one HUGE cliche'. I would be curious to see something you have designed lately?

With all due respect, you all have a pretty defeatest and negative attitudes. And if other dating sites out there are such "Sharks" that cannot be competed with, then consider me a whale!

Ok that is just downright rude. You came on here asking for criticism, you got exactly what you asked for and now you turn around be hateful and crass with these people?? WRONG! Smooth has designed a site and like you take plenty of hits in the critique! The people you are asking, most of whom are professionals at this, you should be thanking not taking pot shots at!

Your site is not worth their time to even consider or help you if are going to be hateful. I am glad they were nice enough to help me, critique my site, and help me fix it - not once would I have said to one of them "I would be curious to see something you have designed lately?"

Also for your information, hearts for romance is cliché, Valentine's is cliché, none of what it did mean is around or how it is meant anymore.

I would be grateful for such harsh criticism... :) it's rare. It can save you a lot of time, especially if 10 ppl have similar opinions. Check out social engine...it's a ready made social network in PHP. It might save you time.

That is enough to make me say that you do not know what you are doing and got some reading to do, big time. :angry3: :angry3:

Hi

Everything new is in the experimentation mode, and you have had some excellent feedback.

If you get lots of members then the face of the website answers for itself.

In life you cannot please everyone and does it matter?

If you fill those images up with lots of Dolly Birds I think it may stir some wings and wag a few tails.

Now there you have the perfect match.

Enjoy the day.
