Dear Fellow members and my respected expert designer,

 

I have learn basic html, and I would like to start my website, but i am bit scared to start..

 

i am learning frontpage at the momnet, please help me out,

 

one more thing i want to find out there is so many website templates and whcih are even free online-- do you think is it more easy to design the site on free templates.. please help and yur advise needed.

I wouldn't recommend relying on pre-made templates. The more you can do yourself the better.

http://www.w3schools.com/ Try look at that website, it has tutorials for HTML, CSS, JS and many, many more - I would recommend learning CSS and JS now you know HTML.

thanks for suggestion.. i know the basic html now, what is exactly css does? a brief explanation needed please. i am using front page to built we web pages.. and note pad...

W3Schools is really very useful, it does actually describe what CSS is when you go to learn it

Front page isn't a great program for web design, it has many security floors along with many other horrible factors. I would recomend dreamweaver cs3. DW can be a bit expensive but if your really serious about web design then........

You do realise that MS Frontpage is very outdated, Microsoft dropped support for it in 2006 - your teacher needs to get up to date!

 

Take a bit of advice, don't learn web design using proprietry software like FP or DW - learn the methods instead (x)HTML and CSS, that way you won't be tied into using one peice of software.

I recomend you to do the following.

 

When you see a nice site that you are visiting always check the page source. That way you will after a while get a little hang on how a page is set up and how it works.

 

There are many excellent sites with guides to css, php, mysql etc etc etc.

 

I would not spend to much time in learning to master Frontpage because you will probably never use it again after you've finished your course.

 

Find a free "what you see is what you get" editor and save pages that you visit and open them in your editor and start making small changes and see what the change does to the site that you have saved on your harddrive.

 

There are also many excellent "cheat sheets" out there so if for example you would like to know more about css just google "css cheat sheet" and you will find some good ones.
