November 12, 200817 yr I am looking to make some good friends, associates and get advice from this cool looking forum. I am a graduate in Web Design (ACITP Accredited Level 3) and I have studied in using Dreamweaver Mx2004, CSS, HTML, basic Javascript, ASP and PHP and Flash and used Fireworks too. ......my skills need updating now If I want to get some Freelance Design experience and start developing a portfolio (I would need to create a blog or website to display my technical abilities) what are the BEST website development tools in use today? e.g Should I buy Dreamweaver CS3 or Adobe CS3 or are they the same - should I wait perhaps for Adobe CS4? As software gets upgraded every 2 years or so I am a slow learner and by the time I master something the technology is out of date!! Is it best to buy OEM software at a discount for personal use OR should I pay massive costs of buying one from Adobe? The tools you use don't really matter, it's your ability to do it that counts. As you've graduated you should be able to open up Notepad and start coding - ok that's an extreme example but in principle that's the way to look at things. The tools you use are the ones that you feel comfortable using, and can obviously afford. "Best" is subjective since one person might love ABC software, but the next just hates it. You don't have to use the expensive Adobe products, there are many cheaper alternatives. However, if you want to use Adobe products then go for it ^ Strongly agree. And here's my usual rant: I didn't pay anything for the tools I use in web design, and it's all legit. There's loads of free software, and there's no difference in the quality of work produced. Have a search to see what's around, and see what's best for you. Welcome to the community
