First Proper site...

Hey Guys

Well I'm approaching the finish line with my first web project, it's been a very long time coming, been working on it for a year now, although most of that time has gone into the animations rather than the site itself. Originally it was going to be a DVD, but I changed path a few months ago and decided to learn how to make sites so that I didn't need to charge for it.

I haven't done a proper proof read yet so there are probably quite a few spelling/grammar errors, but I'm in the process of going through it at the moment.

Just interested to see what people think, both of the site and the actual content.

Thanks!

Aram

Very impressive Aram!! Excellent work.

The pages do take a while to load for me (although I'm at work at the moment and we don't have the fastest connection), but otherwise a very good job.

One word...WOW!

Within the first few seconds of being on your site, i fell in love with it. Usually i am not a fan of animaton on websites, but as this is the feature point of your whole site i followed your link with an open mind, and my was i impressed.

I love the layout, colours, and general feel of the site, and as for the actual examples and guides of how to build a PC, i think they are great too!

I havent given it a particularly detailed critique because i got so excited i felt i had to instantly write a positive response! I am sure someone will let you know if there are any more technical errors/oversights you may want to consider, but my overall initial impression was hugely positive!

Excellent work!

I could have REALLY done with this about 5 weeks ago!

Not including scan.co.uk in the Where to Buy?

Just watched about every step in Building and I'm very impressed! Really great website!

Great site! :good: PC's can be daunting to the average user but your attractive design and user flow-made-simple layout makes it easy to follow and essentially does what it says on the tin. Good work!

This is a great website man, it has to be the best i have seen in buidling computers as most are very outdated and static.

Great Job :-)

wow thanks guys! It's really great to hear such positive comments after so much work :D

MolotovRuss, I havn't put scan, ebuyer or overclockers in at the moment as they don't run affiliate programs which is the way I'm hoping to generate a little income from the site. I did contact all of them including scan to ask about it but they just plain ignored me! I'm thinking about sticking them in there anyway for completeness, but I first have to get over my bruised pride after being blanked like that ! :vava: hehe

Also from checking each of the components prices on all the sites and past experience, Dabs seems to be the cheapest and I have never had problems with them so I though I would use them for most examples. I've also used an IP detector to switch the links so people from the US will see links to Newegg and amazon.com instead.

Once again guys thank you, I really appreciate all of your comments :)

Agree with the other comments - great job with the animations - very clear and helpful.

Just picking up on this point, it may be worthwhile just contacting them again, they may have simply not taken your original enquiry seriously. Contacting them again with the site in its current state would surely invoke a response!

This site is quality seriously quality, has no one noticed it is ironic that it is explaining to build a computer but to view you must do so through a computer ha ha.

Good work though

Yea I think I will do that, although the site wasn't too far from its current state last time....but perhaps they were put off by all my spelling/grammar mistakes! I will finish the site properly and then contact them again.

Hehe, yea that was one of the reasons I was originally going to make it a DVD, but I just thought a website is a far better medium for this sort of thing and I suspect most people would have a computer before they thought about building one ;)

Cheers guys

Oh... once your site gets going and gets some attention and popularity, you won't have to go out looking :p

well, I can only hope so!

Seems getting back links is harder than I thought, for example 'Eric' from pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/ (google "build pc" page 3) seems to think my site "has poor content" and "looks like it's been setup quickly to generate advertising revenue".

I also mailed other sites in the first few pages of google results but they have all just ignored me......

Anyone got advice on getting people to link to your site?

Your site is a million times beter than pcbuyerbeware. Of course, those comments may have been made before you've had a chance to correct those spelling and grammatical errors. A small lesson to be learned there - don't showcase your site professionally until it's 100% complete.

It has a nice coporate look which is good, although I would remove or lower the drop shadow effect you have on your boxes...

I really like the flash work you have in it well done! :good:
