It's a great looking site, but my only critic is the fact yoou have used tables for your layout. (big no-no....... tables should only be used for tabular data)

 

I would strongly recomend you use CSS for the layout, that way, your site will not only be more accessible, but you will be able to change elements of the site quicker and easier.

Learn how to create websites if you want to be a web designer in any form (hobby or Job) you should make a site correctly. Don't use tables for layouts and use doctypes...http://htmldog.com/ will be a great site for you as you have the graphics side worked out, but you need to remember that web design isn't about how things look but how they function, how accessible they are and usability too. Learning how to code a site correctly is what makes a web designer, a web designer. So you owe it to yourself to learn how to create a website correctly, but more importantly if you are going to create sites for other people you owe it to them to know how to do it right. After all if this is just a hobby or something that you are/want to do for a living then you should want to do it right Good luck

 

As for the graphics, they are nice you are a good graphic designer, the layout needs a little tweaking in places but that's just my opinion

I have a CSS Style Sheet attatched to all of the pages but for some reason Dreamweaver was being a bum and creating styles for me as I was going along. I'll get rid of them from the code. As for CSS layouts, do you mean a template made in CSS? Where tables are known as DIVs etc, and I can change width/heights/colour/border/many more using a stylesheet.css or another css file?

 

I'll experiment.

Its a really great website and I don't think I can say anything to fault it. But i did find a typo error:

it's visually a very nice site, but I agree about the need for a CSS layout. Also, I think you can improve your portfolio page. Some descriptions or at least headers to identify each project would add value, and I didn't like the pop-up window when I clicked on the thumbnail. You should trust your users to decide for themselves whether or not to open a new window. I like to keep all my web pages on one window using tabs, and I'm sure many others do too. I think pop-ups will put people off, and remind them of unwanted advertising.

I agree about not making links appear in a new window. When I first started out I used to do this because I was concerned the user would navigate away from my site, but if the user wants to come back (for example to view the rest of your portfolio) you should let them do it on their own terms (with the back button). If you have the right content or information you shouldn't worry about this.

 

For your portfolio items that pop-up you could use something like Lightbox. There are alternatives made using the jQuery framework which add some good features and might just save the savvy/elitist users going "oh... lightbox again hmph".

I would also make the heading images links? I was annoyed I could not click on projects to see projects...

Change the word 'designing' (its all over the about page) to "design".

Very nice design but I have to agree with prior comments, you should use a css only method to be considered a web professional. Also I'd have a copy writer or English major proof read your website for typos. Over all very appealing.
