I've just managed to get my portfolio website together after a long while.

 

I'm still unsure about it although I realise it needs a few extra touches and more content I'm wondering whether to build on whats there or start a fresh.

Full marks for originality. There's a lot I like about your design, but something about it doesn't quite sit right with me. It's either too many elements at funny angles, or the lack of discernable identity between the grass image and the crowd. Or both. It's all excellently executed, god knows I don't have your skills with graphics, I just wonder if you have tried to include all your ideas instead of picking the a few and making them work more closely together?

I love the made with passion stamp, with the barcode and recycling stamp there, and your portfolio page is fantastic. I did spot an error with your copy on that page though - 'a lot' is two words, not one.

The contact page is a little empty - a contact form would fill up the space nicely.

The pages that are not the home page seem to be a bit broken in FireFox3 (1280 x 1024). The people at the bottom seem a bit out of place to me. Everything else I love though. I wish I could be as good as you with graphics. ;(

I can understand where you are coming from with your comments.

When I created the website my aim was originality so I'm glad you think I've acheived this.

Although I too still think there is something which isn't quite right. Which I havent yet put my finger on.

This is a wicked website, but I too feel that something is not quite right.

 

Firstly, there's something a little off with the bend in the cardboard? Just needs tweaking somehow.

For me some of the pages are a bit broken too, you have a just a green background on the left (Firefox 3)

Something about the people doesn't quite work either.

 

But all in all this is well on its way to being an absolutely fantastic site. It just needs those finishing touches.

 

Plus I absolutely love the Allen Resourcing website - also fabulously unique!

First of all:

I like the idea and the elements.

Second: I am not sure if this would be an improvement, but these are the elements I would have played with.

 

-I would have gotten rid of the red "seoweb" top left, and tried to find another solution to "home".

-The tabs, I would have made a little more earthy in colour. Grass, brown wrapping paper = earthy, down to earth.

-The sticky tape more transparent.

-That bottom image is pretty cool, but out of place. Save it for another design.

- make the "handwritten" darker blue. More ballpointpen than internet-link blue.

 

I like the coffee stain and the lined paper. And it will be good to see some more content too.

 

At last - I don't know if these suggestions would be an improvement, just that that is what I would have tried first.

Thats a great looking site but like what others have said the crowd look out of place, other than that I really like the site. It looks really clean. Great job

I have changed many aspects of my site based on the comments I have recieved and of course my own concerns.

 

If you are using firefox you may have a caching issue.

It is a nice site but (isn't there always one!) for me the thing that's "not quite right" is that the 'background' elements are taking over and competing because they're so strong and don't quite blend together.

From a usability point of view I found myself trying to click on lots of things and, although you want "light reading" it's so light that the background is what the site's all about.

Perhaps try to tone done and blend things more and just see if a little content makes a difference?

Don't think I don't like it... it's very close to being brilliant, just that last 10% I guess!

Great website. Just a couple of points to add; it took over 10 seconds to load with the bottom images taking longest, you should reduce the file size if you can. Secondly, the hand at the top takes up a lot of space so the content is halfway down the page, could you move the hand to the right and have it appearing more horizontally?

Awesome looking original site, I would try getting rid of the hand... You can tell it is a completely different image (not to mention it is a weird looking hand!)
