  3. Hey all, bit of a weird question here, not totally sure if this is possible or not but heres a good place to start asking. Basically ive created a few html files, now these html files will in turn be opened by an asp procedure, this will search through the code for certain markers which ive named [/MarkerName/] then replace with whatever im going to tell it to. For example [/CompanyName/] or [/MainNavigation/] etc etc As im sure you will agree, dreamweaver has no idea what [/Whatever/] is, so it interprets it as standard text and displays it in the standard colour in the code view. Is there any way possible at all to add certain strings into dreamweaver and display them in a certain colour, for myself [/Whatever/] would be displayed a dark purple, just so it stands out a little more in code view? Ive checked in the code colouring options and im only able to edit the colour scheme for "existing languages" and am not able to add my own strings, as far as i can see anyway. ......think that makes sense.
  4. Hey all, Quick question, I have an 4 images inline which change from a grayed out version to a colored version on rollover in css, pretty simple stuff, all thats working fine. However below these images is a little bit of text, which I would like to change from say 50% alpha to 100% alpha when rolling over the image above, if thats making sense? So my question is: when rolling over DIV A, can you affect and change DIV B which isnt local to DIV A? Thanks in advance for the help.
  5. Hey guys, was wondering if anyone on here could help me, whilst browsing w3c earlier today I stumbled upon this link. http://www.marylifeblog.com/index.php?sub=vccpafdd It goes on about how some woman is making up to $5000 dollars a month posting links on google, now i dont usually fall for this kind of stuff but the recession is hitting the pocket hard and am looking for various sources of extra income. It mentions you need to buy a google biz kit for $1.00 dollar and then in this kit is the information you need. The site above links to this site below to buy this biz kit you need... http://www.my-internet-payday.com/riskfree...2.php?SID=47433 Just wanted to ask if anyone has had any experience with this at all, and if it is just a cleverly worded scam? It sounds legit with it mentioning google all over the place but I thought I would be better off asking first. Any advice would be appreciated on this
  6. Hmm, I didnt realise you had a lot of code segments available already so if that will bring the time down then by all means reduce the price Now I partly agree with madcatjack on the CMS side of it, there are many fantastic CMS projects freely available, however if he is building the site in asp this could causd problems as, and please correct me if im wrong as i havnt really used any cms sites yet but arnt all their foundations php based? Are there any good community asp CMS systems available, i haven't really looked into it, but if im wrong here by all means correct me
  7. hmmmmm, well personally before I would even turn my computer on, I would get him to write a full complete spec of exactly what he wants, in the past when a collegue has done big database sites without any real spec they turn into nightmares as the client just keeps adding bits here and there. I cannot stress this enough, make sure you have a written spec which you have both agreed on before you start a project this big. Once you have this spec, take a day or so to go over it, do small mock-ups on your computer, to how the shop will work, how the cms system looks, ease of use etc. Work out roughly how much time this will take you, any problems you can see with his spec, anything a bit daft etc. Once you have all this, the site will be much much easier to quote for but for this level of development (I mean a CMS system written from scratch is a large task) I would be starting my prices at around £800 - £1000.
  8. morn / afternoon Ive written a fairly large vaccination request form for a local doctors surgery, when this is submitted it goes to an asp file which processes the filled in form fields, and then generates the email, one is sent to the doctors surgery and a simple confirmation email is sent to the client. However before I write the sending section I just want to test the form is bringing all variables through, and then simply dump these to the page by using: <%=strVariableName%> Now there is going to be around 60 different variables once the form is fully filled in, without me writing out the above line 60+ times is there any shortcut to this to "response.write" all variables? Thanks for the help
  9. Hey all, at work I do quite a bit of classic asp development, however I work on MAC OSX, so when ive written a new script I either have to upload and test the script on the server or I have to connect to the windows laptop next to me via network, copy the files across and test on this machine using a local host on this machine. A lot of faffing around if you ask me.... if my main machine was windows based this wouldnt be a problem, but with working on a mac primarilly this is becoming a bit of a minor headache. Is a local host possible on mac osx? I know there is mamp but this doesnt support asp, only php as far as I am aware. Ive checked on google etc, and cant really come up with any credible sources...any help?
  10. ahh haa, gotcha cheers for that
  11. hey guys, quick question, what does ">" mean in css, is it used in the context of #idname ul > li {display: inline} Meaning: Within the id of "idname" apply these styles to the ul and the li, (only within "idname" not the ul within "idname" and all the other li's throughout the site.) As opposed to writing this code: #idname ul {display: inline} and #idname ul li {display: inline} Not sure if im making sense, ive tried to write this in the clearest way I can think of however if anyone has any misunderstanding of what I mean please post back and ill try and explain clearer.
  12. Sorted it, For others who may stumble across this topic with the same problem, simply go into Dreamweaver preferences and uncheck "always open in tabs " checkbox under the general section. god i feel dumb, more coffee is needed me thinks Edit: you can also right click and "move to new window"
  13. At work I am on a duel monitor set up, and with all this extra space i would like to streamline my work flow within Dreamweaver. Now we all know it is possible to open more than one document in Dreamweaver, with no restrictions on how many you can have open at one time, ( or as far as i know) but what i am having trouble with is displaying multiple documents at once. For example, your .html file open in one view and the attached css stylesheet in another. Windows versions are easy to do this, as you don't maximize the open documents window and then position one on one screen and one on the other. But at work I am on MAC OSX and not sure if this can be done. Any help with this is appreciated.
  14. the way ive dealt with clients like this in the past, and this is the final straw, not something id recommend to every client, just the ones causing a bit of bother. I usually adopt a 3 strikes and your out policy, always give your client ample time to complete payment, and always accept 50% upfront to start work.. I cannot stress that enough. Try to always keep in control of the domain name as much as you can, and if they dont pay, simply take site off line and upload an image along the lines of, "site offline for failure of payment" To reinstate please contact ............. Not many people like this being displayed online and could help *edited, cant spell *
  15. Hi there, To answer your question there are many things that will help the site get indexed by not just Google, but the majority of the major search engines, yahoo, msn, etc etc, before you go into the more advanced SEO techniques, blogging, link sharing, addwords etc, your site needs to have a solid base of basic SEO for the website, without a strong base, the more advanced stuff wont work to their full potential. Now I cant do it right now as im just about to go home from work, but later this evening ill draft up a basic seo checklist for you, make sure all the points are actioned and you will have a good solid base of Search Engine Optimization which wont set you too far off the right path
