  1. Ah I should've checked Chris Coyier's site - it was his video tutorials that introduced me to the starkers theme and starting a theme design from scratch - got a feeling that'll be good, so loading that at the moment. Apparenty moo.com is a wordpress cms site - HOW?
  2. I asked recently how I could pull blog posts from a php based wordpress theme into an ASP page and got some basic answers here - don't know if that's of any use.
  3. OK so I've used wordpress for about 5 blogs now and have got quite into using the Starkers theme and starting from scratch and building my designs up to match the styling of the website the blog is associated with, or just creating a normal blog. I've heard a lot here and there and read a bit about using wordpress as a cms but wondered how it's possible. Ok so you can create custom pages, but how do you control the content that appears on these pages in the wysiwyg editor? say you've got a custom page that required a left hand column and a right hand column - how do you so this? I'm goign to be creating a site for a client soon which requires a blog that users have to register with in order to access the content. So I was thinking of creating a normal HTML site and using cushyCMS for the client to be able to edit the text on the main site pages and then doing the blog in wordpress. But now I'm thinking, maybe I do the entire site in wordpress. I just don't know how you would go about that as I've only used wordpress for blogging. I can't find any decent articles online that go into this in any great depth, everything I find is just a mish mash of what I've just read on another site etc... Does anyone know of any good hardcore tutorials / articles that go into this topic in greater detail. Thanks E
  4. had the form working and managed to send 2 test emails ok, now it's not sending anything! This kind of stuff drives me nuts!
  5. I don't think it's affecting anything else - not spotted any as yet...
  6. wow - that's fixed it - I would never have thought of that! Cheers - you're a genius! I'm going back to install the first form plugin as I think that was better than the current one and see if I can get it working. You've saved me from a lot of head scratching - thanks!
  7. mmm...just tested it in IE8 and the compatibility version of IE7 and the form works fine - so it must be something to do with Firefox...
  8. I've got a wordpress blog and I've created a custom page and want to put a contact form on that page...so I downloaded and installed the plugin contact-form-7. I followed the instructions and activated the plugin and then went to the setup and customised the form and then copied the bit of code required and placed this on my page. When I published the page, the contact form was there is all it's glory, but i could click within any of the input fields to enter text or click on the submit form. I validated the page and all code was valid. Thought it might be a glitch with that specific form but I checked through all 10 pages of the FAQ and couldn't find anyone else who experienced the same problem. So I then downloaded wp-contact-form-iii and installed that and shoved the code on my page and low and behold the same issue - form appears but you can't use it at all. What on earth am I doing wrong? This is the page the form is on - anyone got any ideas?
  9. Well if I can access the database of the blog and pull in the info that way, then I could get my ASP programmer to do the technical stuff there. he'll understand what "query the DB using ASP" means. He doesn't do PHP at all so the blog integration part is going to be interesting
  10. Using feedburner might be useful for me as I can't use the above script on an ASP based website!
  11. widgetbox is awful - i tried that first and found it too annoying - it's ok if you don't mind advertising the product. I'll have a look at feedburner as I use that for my personal blog and see what they offer - thanks for the tip.
  12. I've just read that article and implemented what it suggested and it works a treat - I've even managed to customise it to look right and also used the following instead of it's suugested <?php the_excerpt(); ?> <?php while (have_posts()): the_post(); ?> <h2><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2> <?php // Display content above the more tag $more = 0; the_content("More..."); ?> <br /> <?php endwhile; ?> So thanks gents - you've made what has been quite a misearble day of widget hell into something totally customised to suit my needs! Just need to figure out how to do something similar on an ASP based website now.
  13. I'll have a look through that article - thanks for the link. I'm looking for a widget of some sort that's totally customisable now as I need a solution for the current site & blog I'm working on - both PHP based, but I need to find a non-php way of doing this as well for another site that will have a PHP based blog but the site is ASP based...hence the search for a widget.
  14. i responded to your post NeRo... eh? How does that work? Where's it pulling the posts from - there's no reference to the blog in there. Can you let me know what I would need to change to personalise it to my site. but then WDL made a suggestion and I tried it out to no avail. I'm now looking into Google gadgets
  15. back to the drawing board for me as I'm not a PHP coder and so I'm off to look for an off the shelf widget instead.
  16. that link thing deosn't work - it just make the title disappear.
  17. I added a couple of more posts to the blog and changed the limit to 5 - still only showing the latest 1
  18. I guess I could just add a link around the blog title bit within the HTML...actually that wouldn't work would it as the posts are going to change.
  19. Yes it's working now...another question...it just displays the posts...is there a way to make them link to the actual blog?
  20. I'd missed a letter out of the database name and it's now working...also had to remove the comment line at the end as that was causing issues as the closing php bracket wasn't commented out leaving two n place. Now I've just got to style the thing - I've only got one blog post on the blog at the moment, so only one is getting pulled through - does it pull more than one post or am I restricted to one?
  21. I'm getting an Unable to select database error - not sure why
  22. I'm getting an Unable to select database error and don't know why as the username/password/database info is correct
  23. What does this mean? $query = "Select * FROM wp_posts WHERE post_type='post' AND post_status='publish' ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 1"; Do I need to type something after the '=' ?
