My Disintation - How do small businesses choose their designers?
oh, Germany has plenty of those organisations, like the http://www.agd.de/ (Alliance of German Designers) or http://bdg-designer.de/ (Berufsverband der Deutschen Kommunikationsdesigner) I mean, very major bank has a code of conduct, ethic guidlines, corporate compliance-guys.. but their every day business is hardly distinguishable from the gambling sector and organzied crime

My Disintation - How do small businesses choose their designers?
I am currently organising the relaunch of our corporate website, as mentioned in the business and legal-section. If it was not for me, we would a) give this project to a random local freelancer, who wants to code and design for 1-2k € (friend of a friend of someone XYZ knows...) being ripped off again by the a small mediocore design company which designed the previous page. Like... who teh f** needs a CMS for a static page with nearly no changing content.. c) .. comnpany which shows my boss the shiniest random template. He will choose this for the final design ("I know what is good for my company and what is not. I can feel it.") I created a small document explaining the process of "serious" web-design. He seemed convinced.. but wanted to give the freelancer a try, since they had already made an appointment. ("I do not cancel appointments I've made. I am reliable...") We will see. I am sitting here... biting my nails -.- Even for medium-sized enterprizes, highly specialized companies with tons of cash, desicion process seems this way. Facepalm example: The father of a friend of mine works as CFO for a medium sized German enterprize. He proudly announced his company had a new site. We had a glance. Not too shabby. Some flash (doesn't work without...), catalogue of products (they have like 30 different ones), a CMS, pulling products from a database or more likely an xml-file. Like... 20 pages in total. We asked for the price. He hesitated... "well...i think we spent around 120.000 € for the company. But look.... this wavy lines in the front are moving and making sounds." I cursed myself for being too good and honest. I should be traveling around Germanies rural cities, ripping off medium sized companies, or even the smaller ones...it's desatrous...

70 manhours = how many days?
Hi, assuming, a web-design project consumes 70 hours of work, how many workdays would that be? Or how long would it take for a small to medium sized company to finish this project? My boss' calculation: 70hours, 1-2 men should be 5 workdays = 2 weeks The site is nothing fancy, but I doubt 2 weeks will suffice. Any experiences? concept: 10 h = x days design: 35 h = x days coding: 15 h = x days Project: - Image, representative web site for a small company - 12-20 pages, Templates - no Back-End, Front-End only, focus on Layout, Design - we will provide style-guide/corporate design - initial content only/dummy.-content I think the calculated costs are rather realistic, but we are unsure about the duration of the project. My boss wants this site like yesterday .... :/ Greetings and thanks in advance from Germany, Anton
