  1. Hello all, For those of you in the know about seo (Ryme intended) how well do you think I have optimised my page, if indeed I have at all. Can you check out this link (This is in a temp location ofcourse) and see if I have at least got the basics correct. Thanks for your time everyone. http://test.utuze.com/index1.php
  2. Oh I see mate, yes your right the example I modified did use two scrollers. Thanks for your interest Mihai.
  3. Yes it is. The news in the box may contain more characters in the future, so more or all of that space will be needed. I know how to adjust it though if I want to make it shorter. But in firfox, not even all the words that are there now are being displayed.
  4. Thanks for the tip-off. I have validated and now it has only 3 errors, which are not big problems, with two of them relating to firefox. So now I have done this, do you have any ideas about "my news panel in firefox problem"? The new problems I have discovered relate to the validated way of using the <h1> and <h2> tags not displaying as they should in firefox. These two problems make up two of the 3 remaining validation problems. Thanks in advance
  5. Yes, the dropdown menu is fine now. My old combo of tables and css clearly messed things up but now it is sorted. However, The scrolling news panel does not display correctly in ff and safari, which is driving me a bit insane. It apears trimmed for some reason and I can't work it out for the life of me.
  6. Cheers friend, its really good to hear your appreciation of the style. All the best and a big thankyou for your time and input Big up and what not
  7. Thats mental. The header has been called in, and the browser can see that but not the hard coded content of the main page. What is that about? I'm am totally lost and am on the verge of giving up on this cross browser compatibility effort. Does anyone have an answer, or am I to contact firfox and safari directly. Would they even be bothered to respond? Thanks everyone for your feedback.
  8. Sorry you have lost me. You haven't posted on this topic before have you? what advice did you get me that was incorrect? Are you JP under a different name?
  9. I tried specifying the dimensions in %, 100%, but no change. I looked at the javascript to put the size in but I could not tell where to put it. In the css for the scroller I set the size to 143px high and 135px wide, this works fine in IE. I am lost and don't know where to look now. Any other ideas? Where would I set the perameters in the javascript Thanks
  10. cheers mate i will look into that. Thanks I appreciate it
  11. Which browser are you using? i have checked it in firefox, safari and IE and they all dispaly fine except that in safari and firefox the scrolling news does not display fully.
  12. Greg, I have redone my page using <div position> and some <div id>'s, but more importantly......no tables. I am very happy I have done it, and you are correct, everything is much more organised and you can position anything anywhere and I love it, it provides so many more options. Thanks. I have been looking at the page in firefox and safari but the news panels do not display to proper size, so you can only see a section of the text. But the dropdown works spiffing in all browsers. I have created another topic about the firefox and safari issue, maybe you can have a look at the link and see what the game is. my new css page is at http://test.utuze.com/index1.php All the best bro.
  13. I just redesign a site I have been messing about with using only css. I had a combination of tables and <divs> and was told by many people on this forum that I should take out the tables, so I have, and I know I have done the right thing. I was testing the page out in IE, Firefox and safari, and in firefox and safari my scrolling news does not display correctly, it appears to be trimmed shorter and not as wide. Why is this and what can I do about it? It displays fine in IE link is test.utuze.com/index1.php See what you think Thanks in advance
  14. Greg, everyone. I'll take your advice and rewrite the page using css. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I guess I will be back here several times in the newxt day or so. Thanks everyone.
  15. Helen, I know your right. I'm glad you got your firefox problem sorted - cross browser compatibility ay! just a dream
  16. Dood, I know you are right,
  17. Greg I have just realised it must be gone two in the morning overthere. Forget about my problems, if you don't get some sleep you'll be imagining your are an opera singing firefox living in a cascading style sheet! he he
  18. Cheers Mate, I dowloaded firefox and safari, the menu works fine on those, however the newspanel appears out of line to the left, and the scrolling news is not apearing and scrolling. I wonder is the reason for the menu working in the above browsers because the scrolling news is not, and therefore it is not conflicting? I am really scared that I am going to have to strip the page down and get rid of the tables and just use divs to position everything. I have only just learned about css and div positioning.
  19. OK Greg, Thanks, I shall take your advice and intall the browsers. Big up
  20. Please, Please Help! someone! I'm going insane, I'm starting to think that my problem is a simple one but I cannot work it out. As you can see some people have said the dropdown on "about us" stays fine when they mouse down over the sublevel, but its not for me. Can it be a browser bug? I'm using IE number?, does anyone else experience the same problem as me. Please go to http://test.utuze.com is test it out. I am already concerned that I may be going bald, and this bug is causing more stress, which means less hair, which means more stress. The circle is very viscious. So to summarise: I'm going bald, I can't spell, and I'm starting to hate myself for not learning web programming earlier on in life. Lord have mercy, and maybe some of you forum friends. I'm only little. HELP!
  21. Is the news panel working? so no problem with the menu vanishing below "about us"? I can sometimes get it to stay if I wizz my mouse over "about us" , but its very intermittent and obviousely I can't leave it. I don't know what to do.
  22. IE, don't know what version but came with xp. So if you hover over "about us" and then move down over the submenu, are you saying the menu stays and does not disappear as soon as your poiner leaves the word "about us"? Because that is the problem I am experiencing.
  23. Hi, My drop down menu under the root menu item "about us" disappears when you mouse down to the sub level. This has started to happen when I put a scrolling news panel on the page, which happens to be under the "about us" link. Can anyone shead some light? link is http://test.utuze.com
  24. If anyone is interested, the problem was the Javascript, which must specify a position for the scroller which is the same as the css position, which mine was not. Thanks everone. PS does anyone know how to make the scroller pause if you mouse over?
