  5. hi, and thank you very much for responding. my goal is to keep it free for members but then after its built up traffic and then make money off advertising banners etc.In my head i picture something similar to POF.com (plenty of fish) but for a specific group (much much smaller niche) am i able to do this with a dating script? ive read horrible reviews of dating scripts (slow, buggy, not SEO friendly etc etc) which steers me away from that idea. realistically wouldnt i be able to pay a developer to make something identical to POF for lets say £1,000-£2,000? i DO understand it is a LOT of work and time on the developers part.
  6. Hello all, I've been scavenging the net for a designer/developer for an upcoming project of mine (a dating website with a built in chat room). It has only left me extremely confused, slightly frustrated and most defiantly paranoid about bogus/dodgy "web developers" claiming to be professionals but ant seem to provide any portfolio or previous work examples.... Hmm I'm hoping to get some help, maybe a point in the right direction and possibly an approximate figure which is should be looking at (£££?). I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place. The project itself: Pretty much identical to "plenty of fish", pof.com. - Free membership, no subscription costs etc. - members sign up create a profile, upload pictures. - members communicate via messages, a "block user" feature would be nice too (to keep the creepy dudes at bay) - A forum section for... Well a forum. - a chat room (just 1 room would be acceptable and if need be another room added later?) I used to be a graphic designer myself however it was only for print/photography/signs/menus so my skills are very limited. I did try to make the site myself, created a main page via photoshop - exported it to dreamweaver but then things started getting a bit out of hand and I realised I wouldn't be able to get the site launched this decade. I started looking online for developers/ designers and I've found them in the thousands (yes, 1000's). I placed the "job" on several sites and received guesstimated figures/ bids of £750 lowest and a figure of £30'000+vat the highest... Some promise website p and running in 12 hours, other saying full time work and 8-10weeks minimum I'm hoping you guys with more experience could give me some info on what I should be looking at cost wise/ turnaround time and possibile problems I may face. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my long and boring story, I hope to hear from you soon. Much appreciated, kind regards, Kalvin
