  1. Why thank-you kind sir's. I have not heard much of the discussion around the measure of rounded corners appearing on the web. I presume it just gives a change in some areas to what has been the norm with less control before css? Is there anything I could read up on this - or is it just a personal dislike by some web designers? Thanks for the comments on the site. I hope its going to be a great success. Paul.
  2. Yeah, Iv'e just fixed it for IE 6 after 2 days trying - so its okay across the board now... What colour do you reckon? What about the general design other than that? Paul.
  3. It looks like i have very bad logo drop in IE. 6 (Damn I wish people would get with it!). All other browsers display just fine. Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this? I will post the code in the help section just as soon as I can find it. I know IE.6 is a pain in the ----. I can actually get the logo without the drop - but there is a 3 pixel gap between the positioned divs in the header then... Paul.
  4. Thanks everyone. Some good comments. I can see where your coming from. I'm just to damn arty for my own good sometimes! Need to rain it in a little and think about whats appropriate. Paul.
  5. Hi all, I'm posting this thread because I cant find any answers anywhere to this question. I was wondering what you all thought?? Basiclally, im wondering what the best way of preventing your incomplete site from being spidered by the search engines? I know you can include robots.txt to prevent your site, or pages being crawled; and I know you could use APACHE on your own machine to take away this problem - but is there any other way? What do you all tend to do? Suppose im worried that if I leave the noindex instructions in my robot.txt file for months while I get a site running - google et all my not bother to check to see it's changed very regularly. Valid concern or not? Thanks. Paul.
  6. The above is all true. I would add that its best to purely use CSS and XHTML to highlight your text. Better for SEO entirely if you are using the latest markup (XHTML strict). Therefore, in this situation, I would plan out my h1, h2, h3 css elements to whatever size, boldness or colour I wanted and then maybe also add a .bold tag in your CSS file you can stylise with anything you need to highlight. What do others think? Am I correct? Paul.
  7. Hi Mody, I use fireworks which is very easy to fade images as there is a command for it. It fade out the edges while leaving the middle visible... I would just create a container the width of the screen and center it by setting left and right margins in the CSS sheet to 'auto'. Then I would insert a div tag nested inside the container with a width of your faded image and set to relative (again centered) with the css background image as your design (eg. it may be about 500x500 pixels looking at it)... Then, you can nest another div tag called (content) inside the tag that will be the main container for the rest of your iste etc... Hope that helps. Paul.
  8. I really like this for its ingenuity. I personally think you could get over the cricket theme thingi by putting in a cricket ball at the right top hand edge of the page. This will just do the job while still presenting something a little unique! Very well done on your design skills. Have you thought about how it would look just keeping the torn paper header banner but using a more conventional 'rounded' content box below? I think that would work better, and be even more effective. (sort of less is more...) Anyway. Well done again. ps. How much would you charge roughly for a design like that? (don't expect specific - just very roughly...) Paul.
  9. Thanks very much for your time and comments. I will take a look at the contrast for the site, and also Ie. 6. I was worried about that! Look forward to other comments! Paul.
  10. Hi Guys, I have recently worked up a design for a fine dining restaurant. Was wondering what you thought of the design and what sort of impression it gives. Please feel free to be honest. Thanks in advance. (Design attatched in .jpeg format) Paul.
  11. Hi Matt, Site looks quite good. I have a couple of comments: - The users eye is drawn to the pictures rather than your main text on the left which is a little dull. It's not obvious what your about. You sort of look more like a show homes site. - The logo could maybe do with more work to just give the same professional image as what the site shows off. Otherwise, well done! The design is good if you had a homes for sale site... Hope it helps. PAul.
  12. Hi Ray. I'd echo some of the comments above. Colours are good, design is basic but reasonably professional. Just lacks a little bit of impact visually. You may be able to bring this up to speed with your content, advertisements, banners or rolovers though in the main content. The guy that gave you 2/10 - had a look at his website, and would suggest a couple of things... 1. If you website is 2/10, then his is about 6/10. 2. Learn from it. You look to have a large amount of text on the page. Think about doing what he does and breaking it up a little bit to keep the users attention and split the page up into definite sections with clear visual references. Be careful to not make it too text heavy and wordy orientated - but otherwise - it's looking reasonably sound. I realsie it;s likely to change and evolve as you play it out (they always do). Check your competitors and what styles they use (thats always good). Good luck with it! Paul.
  13. Hi Guys, I am designing a site for myself that relates to finding karting events and people to share experiences with in the UK. http://www.kartingdays.co.uk/test2.php No content just yet - but would really appreciate feedback on how the design strikes you? What impression you get and what message the design is giving you? Thanks in advance. Look forward to your comments! Paul. ps. Any browser problems? I have used all CSS and XHTML. Anyone able to test in IE. 6 for me? I'm particularly wondering if the nav buttons display correctly also.
